Topshop Unique AW16 Show Review

Date:

Topshop Unique AW16 showed us a new side to the esteemed brand

You would be hard pressed to find a woman out there who doesn’t find Topshop Unique inspiring, the relatable brand offering everything from the staple must-haves to the eclectic and quirky finds. Encapsulating all that is British, this brand is synonymous with style, fashion and owning that something a little bit special. This collection however offered us a glimpse at a more grown-up Topshop – elegant pearl detailing, prim piecrust collars and even black-ties made a rare appearance. Whilst this may not invigorate feelings of excitement so often related to the brand, each and every dash of elegance hinted at a more mischievous intent. Flashes of lace, dashes of animal print, slashes and plunging necklines wrought back to the Topshop Unique we know and love.

The front row was graced by a number of famous faces- from Anna Wintour to Karlie Kloss, Jourdan Dunn and Lucy Blue-Smith -so many so, that the show felt like it had begun before the lights had even dropped.

From the first looks which incorporated dogtooth patterned skirts and trousers, the show soon progressed to the more dashing evening wear. Sequins dripped to the floor and enticing faux fur lined coats hinted at nights ahead. Statement coats were a real linchpin of the collection, contrasting coloured revers and fur collars adding a luxe finsh.

This collection is daring yet understatedly so, with a nod towards the girl next door by day, but one that’s not going home before dawn.
