MADE: Brighton’s new go to Creative Milieu: 19.3.16 Launch

Date:

MADE – the new Cafe Exhibition and Workshop space on the scene, launching Saturday 19th March #havenofearmadeishere

Brighton loves to Make Art, Drink and Eat and now there is a place that can offer all of this under one roof: MADE. MADE Brighton, literally an acronym for Make, Art, Drink, Eat, is a Coffee Shop, Gallery and Studio in the centre of Brighton’s famous North Laines, designed to house and encourage the production of creativity and arts and be Brighton’s much needed all-encompassing Creative Hub.

This one-stop-shop is a host of many a an imaginer’s dream, with fabulous coffee to keep the creative juices a-flowing, and if you need a vitamin vamp more than a caffeine kick then there are the daily homemade juices and healthy hot and cold foods to sort you right out; there is art hung on walls everywhere, and there is an unanticipated number of extra walls in this wonderfully old Brighton architecture to sneak a framed miracle on; there is also a great sound system that is tailored to each of their individual rooms; and the space acts as an art studio hosting workshops, pop-up shops, and a space to hire and house all arts and activities.

Made Brighton

MADE is a venture that evolved from Director Leigh-Anne’s first business, Made With Love which began with Leigh hosting her own workshops in Natural Product Making. Initially, Leigh was inspired to host her own lessons in making your own Natural products by her first daughter, having become pregnant and naturally more conscious of the ingredients in food label and cosmetics: hence the slogan ‘When it comes to the skin, as with the body, as pure and unrefined as possible is best’ was born. The evolution to MADE just made sense, it seemed that different workshop spaces did different elements well, but none worked effectively on the whole as a unified venue. Being around art and making all day was the best part of working in a studio, but other aspects of the business are also important, such as serving beverages and prolifically showcasing the teachers and talent that comes through their doors. All in all, Leigh thought it was crazy that a place like this didn’t exist in a place like Brighton yet, and decided that she would be the one to deliver said sanctuary.

Brighton has had the stage set for a place like MADE since its alternative low key London artists hot-spot tag began. What initially provides us with such a venue was the Brighton Dome, but now as the alternative is becoming more superfluous and there now moves in the umpteenth generation of new aspiring artists, we need to make room to accommodate. And this is where MADE steps in, with its open door policy and philosophy of nurturing creativity MADE has provided this, a long awaited resource and retreat for the creatively compelled. It is a hive or all art forms, from latte art to graffiti, sketch, and paint, to a studio for teaching invaluable artistic practices, sharing and learning skills like clay sculpture and inventive raw vegan recipes, striving to encompass literally all art forms one can conceive of under the sun – all cultivated within MADE’s very frame.

Essentially MADE’s end game is to provide a box for those that are ‘out of the box’ and nourish the fruits of out-of-the-box thinking and encourage everyone to expand, enrich and celebrate Brighton minds.

Made Brighton

A Coffee House like a reimagined Amsterdam coffee shop, buzzing with creative ideas and revelatory synaptic musings, but a place which enables these day-dream deliberations to be realised and encourages and helps these conceptions to be conceived and materialise into reality rather than forever remain a stoned dream lost in the abyss of ‘great ideas I can’t remember’. The Coffee at MADE Coffee Shop is of a deep dark chocolate richness by London Coffee Company, Grumpy Mule, decadent and smooth caramel flavours in naked display in MADE’s unique glass cups. The Mule Coffee Beans have no herbicides and no pesticides, made with Organic milk and the perfect balance of shot to milk ratio, making damn fine coffee. MADE is the exclusive Brighton stockist of Grumpy Mule’s Fair-trade deluxe, slow-roasted Landscape blend coffee beans, so don’t miss out on trying a new coffee to get your fix as it may become your favourite. And, of course you couldn’t have coffee without a strong tea collection, all loose leaf and delectable and also by Grumpy Mule: great coffee and tea with character, a distinctive name for a distinctive flavour.

Brighton is bursting with creativity and MADE’s Director (and in house natural beauty product maker & teacher) Leigh-Anne saw an opportunity to form a Creative Hub for our community of artists of all kinds and style. Down the stairs from the Coffee Shop – like Alice’s tumble into Wonderland – we emerge into the extended exhibition area and Workshop spaces where skilled Masters come to pass their trade knowledge down to discerning students. MADE is the true essence of show and tell, it is an environment for sharing knowledge and experience and a place to augment inspiration, it is both an art resource and an artistic source. With the wealth of creative talent in Brighton, it seems that, even as being so new, MADE is spoilt for choice with the calibre of the tutors, making made the perfect place for Alice to have her dreams realised.

If you are a prospective or intrigued teacher then please contact MADE as sharing is caring. Whether you are a master cake decorator; an excellent fashion designer who can teach others how to draw their own designs with your same skills and accuracy; if you’re a master film editor; you want to host a group lesson in a certain musical instrument; or a Raw food extraordinaire, then don’t hesitate to get in contact, MADE is the Queen Bee looking for her Hive of Honey Bees.

Made Brighton

We all wish we had the time to try new things, to better ourselves and to be more resourceful, and MADE is here for you to provide you with all the resources you need. MADE is here to be a nest to wield the potential of all, the weird and the wonderful, it is a new business quite literally at its birth and it wants you to grow as it too grows fostering art, inciting imagination, and transmuting impressions into expressions! MADE doesn’t want to just house wonders but be a home for wonderers too.

As parents of three MADE also strives be have a real focus on kids, arranging ‘Mini Picasso’ session as well as ensuring that the coffee shop itself is kid friendly and a welcome place for parents. Essentially, MADE is made to be one-size-fits-all, for ages 0-100.

In addition to running courses MADE also offer room hire so if you’re part of a Book Group, need to house a Pop-Up Shop, Show, Stall, Performance, Meeting, and the like, and you’re looking for a couple of classy rooms in a fantastic central location with a constant supply of fantastic coffee, teas and snacks, for a function of any kind, then MADE has you made.

Made Brighton

MADE also prides itself on its superfast WIFI and abundance of charging sockets – because we all know how annoying it is when you run out of battery and though you sadistically spot a vacant and available plug socket at every checkpoint you know you spy in vain as it is a social norm for businesses to be stingy with their electricity and they aren’t for you to use – well not any more. So if you’re a the type of digital human who is a super speedy surfer and want to soak in all their generous electricity, crave-worthy coffee, art-spiration, and general good vibes, then MADE is the place for you.

MADE officially launches 19.3.16 showing in full flair its Café, Art Exhibitions, and Workshops, though they also have plenty more to come…

MADE also plans to hosts its own MAD Evenings : evening showcases of Art, displaying anything from Spoken Word Poetry Performances, Murder Mystery Nights, Life Drawing sessions, Music Gigs, and various other Interpretative Performance Art: It is MAD, short for a Mad Hatters Tea Party. Like Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, these performance nights will incite artistic curiosity into the minds of the beholders.  So be prepared to take a journey through the looking glass and keep your eyes and ears peeled for the launch of MADE’s MAD Evening Arts, there will be plenty of tea to go round.

Hey! I’m the other Natasha of Seen In The City. Writing has always been a passion of mine, though I find it to be only one of many of my creative expressions. I love to design and create in lots of different ways, not the least of which is in the way that I like dress myself from day to day. I like to consider myself a bit of a charity shop queen/master, whichever suits my mood.
