The way we date is taking a detour…
In 2012 romance leapt into the unknown with Tinder, and apparently we loved it. The app has recently been valued over a billion dollars, acquired 50 million registered users, and created 10 billion blossoming matches. Yet even with billions of matches, there’s still a large majority of us who loathe the fact that it’s come to this. With phrases being touted around like “I’m going organic”, which is code for not being on any dating apps, there’s a growing number of people looking for an alternative way to mingle with the opposite sex.
Enter speed dating, the first speed-dating event took place at Peet’s Café in Beverly Hills in late 1998, with diners spending between three and eight minutes chatting with a potential match. However recently events have taken a much-needed turn with speed duetting for intoxicated wannabe singers and even ssssh dating for those who’re lost for words.
So here’s our list of some epic events to help you find love in 2016!
Speed dating at Mahiki
Held at celebrity nightspot Mahiki in Mayfair, event lets you dress to impress and mingle at one of London’s exclusive night spots. Plus, if you don’t meet anyone you’d like to see again you can attend another event for absolutely FREE!
Shh Dating
Be prepared for a raucous evening – without saying a word. You’ll be lead through a warm up round of non-verbal flirting games followed by two minutes eye gazing with each person. At the end of Shh dating you can decide who you’ve got your eye on.
Speed dating at the Roof Gardens
The Roof Gardens is one of London’s only rooftop private members clubs and is a glamorous setting for finding love. With the British summer supposedly in full swing this is a great opportunity to get outdoors as well.
Speed Duetting
Make sure you know your Justin Bieber from your Justin Timberlake because Speed Duetting is truly a one off event. You’ll be put into groups and moved between private karaoke rooms to enjoy a duet with the opposite sex where hopefully you’ll find your “one and only”.
Quiz Dating
Flex your mental athleticism with a combination of speed dating and a traditional pub quiz. There are a variety of quiz rounds (General Knowledge, Picture Round, Music etc.) and after each round, the guys move along to join a new team of girls.
