Kim Melville-Smith Exclusive Interview

Date:

We catch up with Kim Melville-Smith, the owner of Innu London…

It’s been two years since I first met Kim Melville-Smith, fashion icon, entrepreneur and head designer of Innu London. A lot has changed in that time, from her designs being exhibited all over the world to a brief engagement to Marco Pierre White jnr and her creation of the London Catwalk Society. It has been a turbulent 24 months but now she is looking better than ever and her business is going from strength to strength. With a new collection coming out in September during Fashion Week and a new bikini range hitting the shelves in 2017, one thing is for sure, Innu London is not going anywhere…

It’s been two years since we first interviewed you! How would you say you/ Innu London have evolved in that time? And have you learnt anything particular?

Innu has been going from strength to strength, but I must say, setting up a fashion company is not easy, getting yourself out there can be tough!! I am loving it though. I have been doing fashion events and I started London Catwalk Society too which is great as I can help other people in fashion and music next work and show case their work.

I have learned to never give up and keep going, Don’t spread yourself too thin and just be true to yourself.

What’s been one of your proudest moments in the last two years?

Being shown on Fashion One TV globally was definitely a very proud moment of mine, I have been aired at least once a month with them, I have had calls from literally across the globe, Dubai, China, Paris, London and more.

Tell us a bit about what you’re working on

I have been working hard on my new website, designing my new bag collection and some accessories. I am also in shops now, you will find my clutch bags in London at Orsini Vintage on Earls Court Road and in a few months with my new leather jacket ranges and more at 202 Westbourne Grove. I am currently working on getting into more shops soon!

Do you have a favourite Innu London dress, and why?

It is my floaty long dark zebra dress, I wish I could make more of them, unfortunately the material was really rare and I couldn’t get more of it. I always get so many complements wearing it!!

Who would you most like to dress?

I still want to dress Kate Moss, I mean she is the Moss!!

What is it you like about reading Seen in the City?

I love your travel coverage, it makes me disappear off into a different country for a moment.

Where is your favourite place to go in London and why?

This is a tough one… I have to choose three!!! There are so many wonderful places to go in London, there is the Japanese gardens on the roof top which is a current favourite, so beautiful and the view across London is great. I love Ciro’s Pizza Pomodoro for a great laugh and Rufus Pucci Pizza for a nice normal catch up with good friends, feels like family there.
