Seen in the City celebrates afternoon tea week…

Afternoon Tea is a real love here at Seen in the City, which is why we wanted to put up a roundup of 4 places we visited which we can’t recommend highly enough. Let us know your favourite places in the comments below…

Bovey Castle

Hidden away in the depths of Devon is Bovey castle- a beautiful hotel which provides views across the stunning countryside. They offer a delicious afternoon tea all year round and after our visit we can’t help but rave about just how good they are…

Our experience
Upon arrival, we were guided into the luxurious Great Western and Smith’s brassiere (their main restaurant) and were seated by our waitress. Ordering the afternoon tea was a real excitement as we had heard so much about it in the past. Warm scones were brought out with thick clotted cream and fresh jam, the traditional finger sandwiches were perfect and light enough that you could enjoy the cakes without feeling too full. Homemade and delicious, this is an afternoon tea that will leave you more than satisfied.

Pirate Themed Tea at the Hilton

If you are looking for something a little different for your afternoon tea, then the Pirate themed tea at the Hilton is a real treat for all…

The experience
Upon arrival to the Columbia restaurant (within the Hilton) we were guided to the themed libary, a chic interior where we were seated in-front of a large window, allowing us to enjoy the picturesque views of the Thames.

The tea commenced with a yummy array of finger sandwiches and ample selection of delicious teas. The real highlight however, was the sweets. The Scones and pastries were delivered in a Pirates chest, complete with a filling of gold coins! They even provide a delicious serving of prosecco.

The Capital

World Renowned Michelin star chef Nathan Outlaw has put his twist on a traditional cream tea which we had to try.

The experience
Arriving at the capital is quite a scene, outside you have luxury Ferraris parking up and just around the corner (literally a 1-minute walk) you have Harrods where you can shop till you drop.

The afternoon tea takes place in its very own sitting room just on the left of the main building, a cosy room which feels very homely and inviting.

From when you first enter the room it is a real excitement, firstly a selection of sandwiches and pastries arrive, which are presented impeccably and taste divine. Next you have the scones, freshly baked, they fall apart with each mouthful. (You’ll want to eat these slowly and savour every mouthful as they are just so good!) Finally you have the dessert – an array of fresh cakes which ticks off all the boxes.

If you are heading to Harrods and want something different, this really is the place to be.

Buckland Tout Saints

Located at the top of a winding countryside you have Buckland Tout Saints, a hotel which provides that personal touch which really stays in your mind after you leave. This hotel really went above and beyond with their afternoon tea and hospitality on our stay, which left an ever lasting impression.

The experience
Serving a variety of teas, there are plenty to choose from. We went for the sparkling afternoon tea with a glass of fizz which really was a treat. Imagine sitting in front of the roaring fire, glass of champagne in one hand and a scone full of cream and jam in the other  – heaven.

The afternoon tea is made by well known head chef Ted Ruewell.
