If you’re looking for an exercise experience that will quite literally take you to new heights, we have just the thing- Rooftop Yoga…
Santa Monica at sky lounge
, on the roof of double tree by Hilton in Tower Bridge is offering Sunday Yoga sessions every week until the end of September. Prices are £12.50 and include an hour and 15 minutes session plus super healthy smoothies after. All with panoramic views over the city.
I headed up there to find out what all the fuss was about.
The Hilton itself is just a three minute walk from Tower Hill underground station and super easy to find. Being 9am on a Sunday the tube is nice and empty, and I promise you, this class is well worth sacrificing that Sunday lie-in!
Upon entering the hotel I took the lift up to the 12th floor. If you haven’t been to this Sky Lounge, it really is fabulous and if you don’t go for yoga (or if you do!) is highly recommend heading here for a couple of cocktails one evening.
The venue is labelled the Santa Monica at sky lounge and the Californian vibes are evident as soon as you step to the sun-drenched terrace. A video wall live-feeds the American City, patio chairs sit in sand and palm trees adorn the edge. Colour is splashed everywhere and a large wall-size photo of Santa Monica beach takes pride of place to the left.
There are about 12 yoga mats set down on the floor when I arrived and fresh towels and water available.
It was refreshing to do the sun-salutation underneath the actual sun instead of a studio ceiling, and as the grey clouds melted into a bright London morning it was easy to forget we were in the heart of the big city.
The class was well balanced (pardon the pun) with plenty of twists, planks, stretches and warriors and instructions of how to alter the difficulty depending on your experience. Whether a yoga-devotee or a first-timer, this class would suit all.
After an hour of stretching and posing, a range of fresh fruit smoothies are brought out – a welcoming added touch (and they’re absolutely delicious.)
I really can’t recommend this class enough. Standing on the top of the city, the fresh air and the hazy morning sun on the skin is the most perfect way to start the day. Surrounded by the relaxing Californian vibes, rows of yoga mats and mini palm trees you’ll feel a real sense of escapism and already look forward to booking the next session.
