Whether you have a sweet-tooth, a craving for something savoury, or wanting to indulge in both, then there is one place in London you should head to – Borough Market.

With a history that is as distinctive as the vast selection of traders who flock to it every week to sell their wares. Borough Market is easily accessible in the very heart of London, a stone’s throw from The Shard, and nestled behind its recent glass frontage addition. It is also celebrated as one of Britain’s best food markets for its high quality, varied and tasty food – not to mention it is also home to one of the most famous Monmouth coffee shops, which is ideal for any caffeinated needs, just as long as you are willing to queue for it.

A market which welcomes weekly – even in the rain (it helps that the vast majority of this market is under cover) – a bustling concoction of tourists, high-brow regulars, Londoners showing those out-of-town friends a taste of London and many more. Borough is made up of a network of passageways connecting the open trading spaces, such as the Three Crown Square, which is the largest trading section of the market and dedicated to the typical market basics: fruit, vegetables, cheese and fish. The surrounding areas, however, offer more of an international atmosphere, giving the market a best of both worlds feel.

We recently visited Borough on an incredibly gorgeous sunny day and, in the appropriate dungaree attire, we were ready to take on the stalls. Borough offers something for everyone, whether you are looking for lunch, coffee, or for those all-important cheese supplies. It is a market that awakens your senses with an intoxicating mixture of smells, sounds of chatter and let’s not forget those delicious mouth-watering free tasters at pretty much every stall.

Admittedly, I am biased. Having worked at Borough as a stall holder I have witnessed this market – in all its glory – as both a trader and a bystander and I can honestly say that there is nothing quite like its atmosphere on either side of the table.

It also offers eager visitors weekly and monthly events, adding yet another dimension to this multi-faceted market.

Borough is one of our favourite markets in London, offering a new experience with every visit, it is truly an edible market in every sense – and one which we cannot wait to take another bite of.
