If you love ice cream, you’re in for a real treat at the 2017 gelato festival…

A gelato festival is coming to London in June. Yes, you read correctly–a gelato festival! A competition to recognise the best Italian and foreign gelato makers, it celebrates the unique flavours which are created specifically for the event.

The festival travels around Europe during the summer to bring goodness, joy and culture to different countries. They’ll be in numerous cities in Italy for arriving in London and then the festival will head off to Poland and Germany.

So, how does it work? Every city the competition stops in will see up to 16 of the best local gelato artisans compete against each other. At the finale in September, the top two finalists from each of the cities on the tour will go head to head for the title of European Champion.

Get yourself a wristband and enjoy all the flavours the gelato makers have to offer–you can either pay for it online or pay when you get there. The festival will be held at Old Spitalfields Market from 16-18 June (Fri h.12–19, Sat-Sun h. 11-19).
