How Tech Can Help You Get Around London

Date:

London can be a minefield to find your way around, which is why we have dived into the world of tech to make it that bit easier…

London is a fantastic city, but it’s renowned for its transportation issues. Getting around the capital isn’t easy due to how busy it is, especially if you attempt to do it by car. However, there are ways to make your London travel experience a lot less stressful.

Technology has really helped commuters to navigate their way around the city, as well as provide unique, easy ways to travel. Here, we’ll look at some of the main ways tech can help you get around London.

Navigation Apps

If you’re new to the capital, navigating around the city isn’t easy! London is often way bigger than people imagine and unless you want to take an expensive black cab around the city, you’re going to need a little navigation help. Luckily, there are quite a few apps which are designed specifically for this purpose.

The Viti London App is a great one to download. As well as providing offline maps, the app contains lists of the best things to see and do, along with detailed area guides. There are even apps available to help you navigate popular tourist attractions, such as the Natural History Museum app and the Regent Street App.

There’s even an app for those who have sight problems to help them navigate the London Underground. Known as Wayfindr, the app provides audio prompts which tell the user where to go via their Smartphone.

Making bicycle travel easier

Of course, one of the easiest ways to get around London is via bicycle. There’s a lot to be said for commuting via a bicycle. It’s cheap, it’s great for the environment and it’s also a great way to keep fit. However, carrying a standard bicycle around the Capital isn’t exactly convenient.

Folding bicycles could provide a fantastic alternative to standard bikes in the city. If you invest in one from a company such as Brompton, you could even build your own to fit your unique specifications. The great thing about folded bicycles is they are perfect for transporting around the city.

If you don’t fancy buying your own bicycle, you could also hire one. There are great bike hire schemes in London, where you can reserve a bike via text or online, then collect it from a specialised dock. The entire booking and paying process can be done online.

Shared journeys

Finally, tech has also made it possible to share your journey with other commuters. Uberpool is a great example. It offers Uber users the chance to share their ride with others who are travelling along the same route. Other similar services include Smart Ride and Citymapper. Take a look on your phone’s app store and you’ll find numerous car sharing apps available.

As you can see, tech has certainly made it much easier to navigate your way around London. From excellent smartphone apps, to clever folding bicycles, there’s something to suit all travellers in the list above. As technology continues to advance, it’s only going to become easier to get around the UK’s capital.
