DAKS AW15 Show Review

Date:

DAKS AW15 collection played homage to the biker, grunge theme…

Straying far from any whimsical, feminine cuts and shapes, DAKS AW15 was androgynous yet chic. Bright, bold splashes of colour shook up any  preconceptions you may have had that DAKS is all about the checks.

Creative director Filippo Scuffi has worked to reach an “exclusive place”  of elegance in a sporty chic mood. Motorcycling is celebrated through most of the garments, yet DAKS trademark checks still make an appearance in various forms.

Working around the term “moda” – which is Iralian for movement, evolution and dynamism, so the reference to the wheel is immediately thought of. The motorcycling element works to celebrate the great iconic story of English motorcycling.

Pieces such as an inonic red leather jacket lined with red cashmere, a classic black style motorbiking jacket and a chic biker style skirt can be seen, and quilting is a further element integrated throughout the entire collection.

Present in various pieces such as jackets, gloves and shoes, it plays homage to the classic motorbike saddle, creating an eclectic and modern twist.

A tulip print has also been used in part of the collection, with different variations of colours and sizes and in chiffon and georgette fabrics. Whilst most of the collection is bold and statement, the feminine floor length shirt-dress in deep autumnal tones is a key piece in this print. British fabrics such as Prince of Wales check features strongly in the collection and can be seen in a masculine inspired double-breasted jacket and matching crop trousers. Alongside this, a nod to the 70’s can be seen within the choice of music, models and hairstyles.

Speaking of the collection Filippo Scuffi said: “This time I wanted to show we could go beyond the check. In the future we may go back,”
