As London Fashion Week drew to a close, the final show, Hakaan Yildirim AW15 did not disappoint

Turkish fashion designer, Hakaan Yildirim jumped onto the fashion scene in Paris with his 2011 collection, and now takes precedence at London Fashion Weeks prime showspace in Somerset House.

Beginning the show was the noise of John Carpenter, brooding and ominous that created a beautifully intense atmosphere. Typically known for accentuating the female silhouette, his style is easily recognisable yet gave us an exciting masculine touch with oversized coats, slicked back hair and strong shoulders.

Inspired by a combination of Avant-garde and the Middle East, Yildirim’s collection exhibited a strong and powerful colour palette. Black, crimson red, dark green and nude dominated the runway. The collection was consistent with shape and silhouette, presenting high necks, long sleeves and a relaxed fitted waist. Mid-calf length skirts and trousers followed the androgynous theme, but the element that excited me the most was the clever windswept silk headscarfs held up with wiring, an accurate reflection on all of us as it was particularly breezy that day!

Yildirim’s fabric choice was expensive, luxurious and featured lots of sex appeal, as well as capturing the youthful feel Yildirim holds on to in his collections as a standard.

His eccentricity was expressed throughout with clever use of fabric and textiles, creating elaborate patterns and quirky cuts. Yildrim’s personality really shone through with each piece that took to the catwalk.

The verdict? The A/W 2015 collection is his most coordinated and exciting work to date. And even as spring may be approaching us, I definitely want one of those oversized coats. This is England after all.
