Five unconventional Bingo nights in London you’ll never forget

Date:

A night out with a difference… Yes we’re talking about Bingo!

When it comes to a weekend night-out, the stereotypical 20-something-year-old might define it with free flowing drinks and a night of dancing, but these days, millennials seem to be more interested in more than just cocktails and clubbing. In the past, senior citizens convened in bingo halls while university students danced their hearts out until the wee hours of the morning. Fast forward to the present, we’re seeing a surprisingly new kind of demographic. As The Wall Street Journal explains, “Bingo is the latest old-school pastime enjoying a resurgence among young people, along with knitting, bowling and euchre… [and is] crawling out of its recreation-center past,” which in turn has given rise to the online bingo craze that Generation Y are so obsessed with.

Bingo Events

While more people have taken a liking to online gaming options as Calvin Ayre reports record breaking profits for online gaming portal Gala Bingo, famous for incorporating quintessentially British themes like Coronation Street into their titles, Londoners are still fond of the live events that bingo houses put on, particularly the ones that have added their own twist to the game.

Fancy a round of unorthodox bingo? Keep a lookout for the following events in the capital:

Musical Bingo

Hosted by a group of big personalities and outgoing DJs, Musical Bingo is similar to the conventional game, only songs are played rather than numbers being called out. The rounds take on different themes based on specific topics or genre or decade, with some unexpected twists all throughout. Check out their upcoming events for the next couple of months, as they host parties with Summer Wedding and Back-to-School themes.

Rebel Bingo

This is far removed from the typical bingo game you’d imagine your grandmother playing. Loved and despised by equal numbers, Rebel Bingo has become somewhat of an international phenomenon, hosting parties throughout Europe and select destinations in the US. If you’re curious about the debauchery and shenanigans that go down during their events, feel free to buy tickets to their regular appearances in Camden.

The Big Bingo Show

For a bit of bingo-cabaret-mayhem, there’s no place else to be other than the Royal Vauxhall Tavern on a Monday night. A concoction of drag acts, surprise guests, drink promotions and fantastic music, you won’t find a bingo event quite like The Big Bingo Show.
