Review: The Island Grill Restaurant

Nestled a two minute walk from Lancaster Gate station and a stone throw from Hyde Park is Island Grill, a welcome oasis in the heart of the city.

When you visit Island Grill (and I say when, for if you didn’t you’d be missing out) ask for a table by the window – bright and airy it’s a lovely place to sit and while away the evening (and also an ideal-spot for people watching.) The decor is an array of wood veneer and silver with splashes of purple, creating an enticing oasis for wining and dining. Seats are cushioned and comfortable and the open kitchen means you can watch the chefs working away.

Food is created using fresh produce and only ingredients which are in season, with menus updated and prepared regularly. Because of this, it means there’s always a delicious and varied array of dishes on offer.
Starters include a whole array of delicious dishes from seared tuna salad to risotto to tortellini – all tastes are catered for. On my visit I selected the carrot and ginger soup, and my friend the leek, pea and broad bean risotto.

The soup was creamy and delicious. Piping hot and just the right consistancy, it made for an ideal starter. The risotto however, was a real stand out to the meal. Topped with cheese crisps, baby spinach and confit lemon it was teaming with flavour and a dish I would order myself if I were to visit for dinner again.
Mains, again, are varied and aswell as a number of traditional brasserie style options, they have a dedicated ‘grills’ section offering everything from grilled tuna to beef to chicken to lamb – more than satisfying any meat-lovers palette.
I chose their roast suffolk chicken, which is accompanied by a delicious borlotti bean cassoulet, wilted spinach and rich chiclen jus. The meat was soft and tender, the cassoulet flavoursome and the rich chicken jus a delicious finisher. The freshness in the produce and the care of the chefs is evident in both the tastes and the presentation and there was no fault to be found.

She ordered it with chips but you can also opt for a side salad (we would recommend the chips everytime, they’re too good to miss!)

If you have a sweet tooth, Island Grill really come into their element here. I chose a delicious crumble dessert – caramelised Granny Smith, almond fancier, fresh berry compote, raspberry coulis and clotted cream ice cream. It was sweet, but not sickeningly so and a fresh and delicious way to complete the meal.Island Grill restaurant london
My partner chose the chocolate trio – an utterly indulgent set of a dark chocolate fondant, white chocolate & coffee foam and Valrhona chocolate sorbet. There was just the right amount and enough extra ingredients, tastes, flavours and textures to prevent death by chocolate. Divine, this is a dessert to save room for.Island Grill restaurant london
The Island Grill is a befitting location for a whole range of occassions – whether on  date night or looking for a chic location with friends it will welcome you in with open arms and give you an experience you won’t forget. Food is delicious yet not overpriced and the location is superb.
