dirty-dancing-lift

This Valentine’s Day, following the success of their Stranger Things Special back in October, Night Call is teaming up with U Suck to recreate the summer camp from the infamous Dirty Dancing Movie to celebrate the films 30th year anniversary.

In the main room, cult club night U SUCK will bring their special blend of break-up bangers and pop kiss-offs via a holiday camp in the Catskills. Think wooden dance floor, disco balls and a 1960s American resort theme with palm trees, coconuts and Watermelon cocktails. You’ll even get the chance to recreate that famous lift with a professional! If you’ve ever been put in a corner, messed around by a weaselly waiter or mutually agreed never to see the love of your life again then the catharsis of holding your pals close and screaming WE ARE NEVER EVER EVER GETTING BACK TOGETHER and other pop-based boy-byes from Beyoncé, Robyn, Grimes and more will have you feeling ready to carry a watermelon again in no time. In the bar, Night Call DJs will be playing a mixture of 60s 70s and 80s dance and pop music inspired by the movie! Expect Décor, confetti and the ‘Time of your Life’ as we bring Dirty Dancing to Hoxton Square.

Viking Aphrodisiac History Masterclass in the WigWam at Queen of Hoxton’s Rooftop

Date: Sunday 12th February 6-7pm

Tickets: https://queen-of-hoxton.eventcube.io/events/5474/historical-aphrodisiacs-with-avm-curiosities

Queen of hoxton

Forget strawberries and champagne, Valentine’s Day 2017 involves a far more titillating taste of history. Inspired by themes of love and romance, The Queen of Hoxton Rooftop will play host to a seductive still life, where everything on the table was at one point or another considered an aphrodisiac. Presented by food historian Tasha Marks, you’ll sip, sniff and taste your way through 2000 years of frisky foodstuffs, including an Anglo-Saxon aphrodisiac, which was traditionally presented to the bride on her wedding night.

From the innocent Apple, reminiscent of Adam and Eve, to Vanilla with its evocative sheath, the range of historical bounty will be plentiful – after all, the very act of eating is in itself a sensual act. Alongside a plethora of historically credited aphrodisiacs, there will be two limited edition nibbles reproduced from ancient sources, including the Kama Sutra’s Sweet Potato Biscuits with Velvet Bean, which have proved interesting.
