Our five favourite countryside hideouts in and around Brighton

A new way to explore Brighton

People often forget Brighton is not just about the beach, it is surrounded by picturesque countryside too. Here are our favourite few hideouts when you need time to escape the mayhem of everyday life:

Devils Dyke

With rolling hills, cliff edges and views of the sea in the distance, Devils Dyke has it all. The naturalistic beauty and greenery all adds to the touristic spot. Less than 10 miles away from the bustling city of Brighton, this little retreat is perfect for escaping from the chaos, with a nice Vintage Inns pub at the centre of it all. If you’re searching for zero mobile signal, a long country hike, Devil’s Dyke is the place to head to.

Ditchling Beacon

Only a 20 minute drive the city centre, Ditching Beacon is a beautiful hotspot for Brighton residents when wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. With views from the top of the Amex, mixed alongside the quaint village of Ditchling, it’s easy to feel lost in the beauty of nature. Following the track down, there’s access to the village, which has delightful tearooms and country pubs. If you follow it further, you can end up in Stanmer Park, Falmer.

Preston Park

Situated on the outskirts of city centre, Preston Park is another of our favourite hideouts for its beautiful gardens. From stepping stones over ponds to the secret garden, the park is perfect to escape city life with the family and dogs. A great picnic spot for the spring also!

Queens Park

Although being one of the smaller parks in Brighton centre, Queens Park has an effortlessness effect of relaxing after a long day, whatever you’ve been doing. Getting lost daydreaming looking out at the water is uniquely peaceful.

Birling Gap

Situated about a 50 minute drive from the centre, Birling Gap is completely breathtaking, even on a dismal winters day. The white cliffs, sea, and countryside are all rolled into one here. With other natural hotspots along the way, Birling Gap is perfect for a Sunday trip out to escape the city.
