The Playground Theatre Reopens in West London.

On 26th April, artistic directors Anthony Biggs and Peter Tate hosted an intimate evening of drinks and entertainment at the newly refurbished Playground Theatre in Ladbroke Grove…

With a capacity of 150 – 200 the theatre includes a sumptuous front of house café bar which also serve as a local amenity. The acclaimed directors plan to create a policy of fun and experimentation at the heart of it’s journey.

Peter Tate

Peter Tate was trained at Webber Douglas, London and Stella Adler, New York. His career began in New York. Peter’s credits include “The Bacchae” on Broadway and “Richard III” with the American Shakespeare Company. Peter returned to London briefly to play a leading role at The National Theatre opposite Alan Bates. At the invitation of Actors Studio in New York, he played the co- lead in “Rasputin” opposite Peter Stormare. More recently he played the lead in “Tabloid Caligula” at the Brits Off-Broadway at 59E59 Theatre.

Furthermore, in the UK, Peter’s roles include The Master in “Master and Margarita” and Senator Daniels in “American Justice” at the Arts theatre in the West End. At the invitation of award winning Polish directory Henryk Baranowski, Peter played the lead in the bi-lingual production of “Macbeth” in Poland.

Anthony Biggs

Anthony Biggs completed the MFA Theatre Directing course at Birkbeck, University of London. He began his career as assistant director to Lawrence Till at Watford Palace Theatre. After roles with English Touring Theatre, Theatre503 and Shakespeare’s Globe, he joined Jermyn Street Theatre as Associate Director in 2010.

Anthony went on to direct critically acclaimed revivals of Charles Morgan’s, “The River Line”, “St John’s Night” and “Little Eyolf”. He was Associate to Trevor Nunn on Jermyn Street Theatre’s production of “All That Fall” which transferred to the West End and New York. Jermyn Street Theatre was subsequently nominated for The Peter Brook Empty Stage Award and won the Stage 100 Award for Fringe Theatre of the Year.

Given these incredible accolades we expect great things from The Playground Theatre. The opening season will be announced later in spring.
