Autumn style: Essential items to prepare for the colder months

Date:

The essentials you’ll need as the seasons turn to Autumn…

As summer comes to a close, you’ll no doubt be looking ahead to the cooler period and what you can add to your wardrobe to give it an update ready for Halloween, and Autumn walks and standing out in the cold on bonfire night.

‘Grown-up’ dressing will continue, as we adopt the formal shirt and make it casual on a day to day basis and suits were seen on most catwalks for the season ahead. With this in mind, here are the essential items you need to make a beeline for at your favourite fashion store, ready to nail autumn style:

Skater dresses

Be sure to pick a couple of these up in autumnal colours – online stores such as superdry are already stocking the styles ready for the season ahead – think black, navy, dark green and burgundy. Skater dresses are easy to throw on pieces that look great over thick tights and finished off with cosy knitted jumpers – ideal for both the office and lunch time meet ups with friends over warm coffee.

Ruffled shirts

Ruffles are still big news for 2017, as the trend for plump shirts and delicate designs continue to line the clothes racks. They’re the perfect smart blouse for office work, with layered ruffles seen on necklines and puffed sleeves to add a little interest. Pick up a couple for work and pair with skinny jeans and those ankle boots for easy autumn style.

Power suit

Not only are suits pretty warm to wear but you can mix and match the top and shoes to change up this autumn style piece. A lace bralet and heels works for autumn nights out while a turtle neck jumper will see you through those days at the office when the heating hasn’t quite been fired up yet. Look for grey styles with strong tailoring.

Chunky scarf

A chunky knitted accessory is an ideal addition to your AW17 wardrobe. Even if it’s not quite winter jacket weather, one of these paired with a lightweight bomber or even a denim jacket will ensure you still look stylish and stay warm.

Knitted tights

Tights can help take any dress or skirt and make them appropriate for the autumn months, grab a pair in black to wear with everything – red and green shades also work.

Shearling collars

Shearling made a comeback in late 2016 and it looks like we’re revisiting the style again this autumn. A denim jacket featuring a strong shearling collar and lining is the easiest way to prep for the autumn months, not only is it an easy to style piece of outerwear but it should keep you snug too.

Ankle boots

A good pair of ankle boots will see you through from autumn, all the way to spring next year. Perfect with everything from skinny jeans to knitted dresses, they’ll keep your feet warm when you’re out and about and dry in the inevitable downpour or two.

Rose prints

Embroidery was big news in spring, with roses and edgy slogans emblazoned on everything from t-shirts to jeans pockets. Expect to see rose designs continue into autumn, but as an all over print – an easy to wear maxi dress paired with those ankle boots and chunky scarf is an autumn look you’ll love.
