Working hours are going up and up and with people spending more time working at the office than at home, it’s important it’s a space which you can enjoy and relax in. After all, an uncomfortable and messy space is only going to decrease morale, decrease productivity and in turn decrease profits for the company.
Here are our top five tips to revamp your office and make it a better place to work.
Invest in high quality office furniture
If you’re going to be sat at the same place from 9-5 five days a week, it is paramount that you are comfortable. Invest in (or request from your boss) some high quality office chairs that are not only comfortable to sit at for hours on end, but also supportive to your back and neck. There are a number of speciality office furniture suppliers who can provide exactly what you need.
Add personal touches
Let’s face it, blank walls and a plain desk aren’t exactly going to keep you motivated. Why not bring in photos of your friends and family to pin round your desk, or some nice pen pots, magazines and personal touches which will make you smile. This will not only keep your morale higher, but can help to reduce stress and keep you on task.
Lighten it up
No matter who you are, productivity is never going to be its max if you are sat in a dark and gloomy corner of the office. If it’s not possible for you to sit near a window, invest in extra lamps and make sure you always have plenty of light to work in. This makes you both more efficient and helps to protect your eyes too.
Add greenery
Whilst this might seem a bit odd at first, there’s actually a number of reasons why it’s good to have a plant on your desk. They have been found to improve air quality and can help you to recover from illnesses faster, they are also shown to reduce stress and keep rooms more comfortable by levelling out humidity. Plus, they can also keep the environment in your mind reminding you to keep eco-conscious throughout the day.
Protect yourself
Even if you have the most beautiful work space in the world, if you are not protecting yourself from things such as RSI (repetitive strain injury) then it’s pretty pointless. Invest in things such as a foot rest, a stand for your computer screen to ensure it is at eye height and special keyboards and computer mice which can help with your wrists and arms.
