Winter Car Care Tips for a smooth drive

Driving in winter is much trickier than in the summer months which is why we have put together some winter car care tips for a smooth drive…

This winter we all need to be extra cautious and take good care of our health to be safe from any kind of viruses attacking us. We need to stay warm, wear masks while going out and keep ourselves covered as much as possible. Along with all such precautionary health measures we also need to make sure that our cars are properly functioning during this season. A sudden car breakdown during this chilly weather can put us in a lot of trouble. It will not only make us stranded in the middle of icy roads, but also can possibly cause us to catch a cold while fixing our car. This is why our winter car care tips will help you out.

Winter Car Care Tips for a smooth drive

A few important checks that you can carry out before heading for any short trip are mentioned below:

Check your battery

You need to note that during freezing cold when the cars are used less frequently, the battery in it tends to lose its recharging power. This happens because the battery does not get enough energy from the engine that is used to recharge it.  What needs to be done to avoid such a situation is that you take your car out for a short spin in the neighbourhood twice a week so that the battery is warmed up effectively otherwise if you are unable to do that you can always leave your engine running for at least 10-15 minutes once a week.

Check your tyres

Your tyres are prone to deteriorate while rolling on hard icy roads. You need to make sure that you properly inflate your tyres to the appropriate level so that no punctures are encountered during your journey. Another very important thing is to check the tyre tread depth , it needs to be around minimum of 1.6mm however if your tyres are expected to roll on rugged land then tread depth of 2mm or above will suit your tyres. You can always check the proper tread depth yourself by the rim of a 20 pence coin by placing it into the main tread grooves of the tyre. Furthermore if you want roadworthy tyres, you can book quality tyres in Stirling from Fife Autocentre.

Wash your Windscreen

You should know that unexpected rain or snow during this time can cause mud and dirt to be accumulated on your windscreen or even your wind vipers causing a compromise in your road view from the wind shield. It is hence recommended to properly wash your windscreen with clean water and any anti bacterial detergent to avoid gathered up filth. Also wiping off piled up dirt in the vipers can help you use the vipers effectively when required.
