Timeless Tastes: Savouring Jamaican History Supper Club

The evening begins with a rooftop reception at the new Hawley Wharf Camden development, home of the latest Rudie’s Jerk Shack. Guests will begin with canapes created by ASH Culinaria, honouring Camden Town’s fusion of Jamaican and British musical cultures. Expect canapes including:

●      Anansi Spider Eggs
With hard-boiled quail eggs captured in jerk chicken pâté and deep-fried in a web of kaitaifi pastry, this dish recognises the Akan folktale character Anansi and celebrates Afro-Jamaican folklore

●      Kingston Pakora
A spicy fritter assortment of Coronation Market produce including green banana, susumba and breadfruit, this pays tribute to the Dougla people of mixed African and Indian descent, and all Jamaicans with ancestry from the Indian subcontinent

Next, Cumberbatch’s five-course dinner spotlights Jamaica’s history and multi-ethnic food culture. Menu highlights include:

●      Roast tranche of halibut with escovitch sauce, sweet potatoes and fine beans
Showcasing seafood that is plentiful in Middle Passage waters

●      Red Stripe & Red Label wine-braised short ribs
Elevating Jamaica’s favourite tipples to become fine-dining ingredients

●      Ackee & macanudo roast tomato tartlet
With an aroma of indigenous silver-tongue tobacco leaf and vintage Jamaican cigars

To accompany the evening’s meal, an alchemical cocktail menu, also curated by ASH Culinaria, will chronicle the history of Jamaica and the Atlantic World. Highlights will include:

●      Trenchtown Iced Tea
A seamless fusion of Kingston street culture (Wray & Nephew Overproof Rum), Hawley Wharf accord (local Half Hitch gin), pineapple, tequila and CLIJÉ.

●      Dancehall Queen
A liberating big-up to the London bashment music scene, Japan’s Dancehall subculture and the reign of dancing queens, this blends the flavour of Japanese melons with three staples of the bashment party scene: Passion fruit Alizé liqueur, Hennessy VS cognac and brut champagne.
