Smart Homes – What Gadgets You Need In Your Home

Date:

In the past few years, technology has evolved at a rapid rate, gadgets that were the thing of sci-fi dreams even just a few years ago are now common household gadgets. These gadgets even work together to help create ‘smart homes’. If you want to make the most of all this fancy new tech and turn your home into a smart home, read on to discover what you need!

Smart Home

Smart Speakers

When it comes to smart home technology, smart speakers are an essential piece of kit to have. These smart speakers are good for playing music, setting timers and answering questions, but they’re also used to control other pieces of smart home technology by voice command, so if you want to get the most out of the smart home experience a smart speaker is a must-have.

There are many different smart speakers on the market, the most common ones are Amazon Alexa, Google Dot and Apple Home. Functionally, all these smart speakers will do pretty much the same job as each other and work equally as well for handling voice commands.

Smart Lightbulbs

Once you have your smart speaker set up in your home, smart LED lightbulbs should be among the first piece of smart home tech that you pick up. Smart lightbulbs can be controlled with voice commands or by an app, but you can do so much more than turn them on and off, some bulbs like the Phillips Hue allow you to change the colour of the bulb or even set the lights on timers.

When you get a smart LED lightbulb, there are more benefits than just having ‘smart’ lights. As these bulbs are LED lightbulbs, they will last a lot longer than an old-style lightbulb, meaning that they need to be replaced far less frequently.

Electric Window Blinds

Next up, you should look to install some battery operated blinds in your home’s windows, this will provide a really futuristic look and feel to your home as you raise and lower your blinds at just the touch of a button. While that may not sound impressive, when you see it yourself you will feel like you’re living in a spaceship.

For electric window blinds, you’ll have a few options to choose from, some companies offer fully smart blinds with voice command and app control, but other retailers offer remote-controlled versions which can be controlled at the touch of a button, or even some versions which have wall mounted switches to allow for easy use.

Smart Security Systems

Finally, we move on to one of the more impressive sets of gadgets you can have in your smart home, smart security systems! Thanks to modern technology, we now have smart door locks, smart video doorbells, smart door sensors and even smart temperature alarms.

All of these tools are useful on their own, but you can go out and about with peace of mind knowing that you can monitor your home whilst you’re on the go. To make things better, with a smart video doorbell and lock, you can let visitors into your home or take receipt of packages without needing to be at home!
