First Look: Sussex Snack Bar in Soho – a cosy spot for light bites, wines and casual dining

Date:

One of the best things about London, is that for every chain restaurant you have about ten independent gems just waiting to be discovered. One such place we’ve recently stumbled upon is the Sussex snack bar in Soho. An extension to the already existing Soho restaurant Sussex from brother duo Richard and Oliver Gladwin, it’s a more casual dining venue that’s inspired by the eating and drinking culture of San Sebastian. Using only locally sourced, sustainable British ingredients, it’s the place to head for bitesize, sophisticated plates served to accompany drinks.

The Sussex Snack bar in Soho offers seasonally changing menus and is a celebration of the Sussex countryside. Offering an eclectic mix of classic and progressive cooking, ingredients are sourced directly from the Gladwins’ family farm and vineyard or local supplier’s handpicked by the brothers. This ensures the ethical commitment to sustainability is always at the core of their business.

Hero dishes including regularly changing sliders such as Roast Duck or Turbot, as well as sandwiches
including Onglet with Pickled Chilli and Aioli. Other dishes will feature Razor Clams with Ceviche Dressing;
Sichuan Herb Fed Chicken Wings; Spiced and Roasted Carrots, Cow’s Curd, Mint and Buckwheat.

Although served as small bites the intention is for the dishes to be shared and ordered according to preference. The wine list perfectly accompanies the menu, comprising the Gladwin family’s award-winning range of Sussex wines from their Nutbourne vineyard in Sussex, as well as a crafted wine range from other like-minded producers around the world.

As soon as you enter Sussex Snack Bar in Soho, you’re greeted by a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with dim lighting, rustic surfaces and draped foliage. There are plenty of seats at the bar as well as additional booth style seating to the rear. It’s intimate, cosy and welcoming – the sort of place where you can bring a date, your friends or your parents and you’re all guaranteed a great time.

Richard Gladwin co-founder of Local & Wild comments: “We are really excited to be opening up a more day to
day food and drink offering in Soho. Sussex is great for a celebration lunch or dinner, but we want more pre and post theatre, mates catching up to enjoy our sustainable fare every day, Gina and I both love Spanish snack bars and we thought it would be fun to do with Sussex produce”.
