Just when you thought cheese and wine pairings were the elite of the elite, London’s much-loved gelateria Badiani has come up with a combination that knocks it right off the top spot – wine and gelato. This spring and summer, head to their Chelsea branch where you can partake in a limited number of dedicated wine and gelato evenings in their sun-drenched terrace.
A real exploration of flavours, the Badini wine and gelato pairings offers you the chance to take a culinary journey through Italy. From the rugged landscapes of Lombardy to the southern region of Siciliy and historic Veneto you can tuck into five unique wine and gelato combinations.
Expertly paired by in-house sommelier Maddalena Riccardi, she scoured the length and breadth of her home country to find wineries that share the world-famous gelato producer’s values for sustainability, as well as a passion for all things artisanal.
In a sensory exploration that pairs warmth alongside cold, acidity against creaminess and the mellow with the sharp, Puglia-born Maddalena introduces participants’ palates to the following combinations:
- Fragrant Franciacorta Essence Rose from Lombardy paired with strawberry sorbet, made from fresh, organic strawberries.
- Intense ruby red Recioto Della Valpolicella from Veneto, paired with Badiani’s delicate and sweet 811 dark chocolate sorbet.
- Softly sweet Apianae from Molise with a rich and creamy Venezuelan dark chocolate gelato.
- One of a kind Sicilian wine, Grillodoro Muffato, the only ‘noble rot’ wine produced on the island, paired with Ricotta gelato, made using the finest Italian Ricotta.
- Aromatic and fresh Moscato D’Asti with Badiani’s signature Buontalenti gelato, a creamy, dreamy simple scoop that cannot be found anywhere else.
The evening will be rounded off with a serving of Italian sunshine in the form of a refreshingly frothy SGROPPINO – a traditional Italian palate cleanser which combines a scoop of Badiani’s lemon sorbet (made with the revered lemons of Messina) topped off with prosecco.
Badiani’s first Wine and Gelato night will take place from 19:30 – 21:00 on Thursday 20th April. Tickets cost £40 per person (including booking fee) and include a welcome glass of prosecco, five guided wine and gelato pairings, a sgroppino plus special discounts on bottles of Badiani’s artisanal wines and takeaway gelato boxes.
Future events are scheduled for Thursday 18th May and Thursday 15th June. For more information and to book your place visit: https://www.designmynight.com/london/whats-on/something-a-little-different-events/badiani-gelato-and-wine-tasting
