Amari Bangkok Hotel Review: Unparalelled Luxury & Calm In The World’s Most Visited City

Standing at the window of my 17th floor Club Premier Room in the Amari Bangkok, I look down across the city streets in front of me. In contrast to the hurriedness and frustration of the cars and tuk-tuks weaving around each another, a feeling of ease envelopes me. I had been travelling for almost 20 hours prior to my arrival, passing through seven time zones. But from the warm greeting I receive the moment I walk through the lobby doors, I know I’m in good hands. Keep reading our Amari Bangkok Hotel review to see just how much we loved this stunning hotel and what you can expect when you’re there.

Bangkok is renowned for both backpackers and business people who pass through the city, with a rich history and culture entwined with a bustling centre. A large city with much to see and explore, a touch of luxury such as that provided by Amari Bangkok, ensures the full relaxation you need to feel rested and rejuvenated each new day in the city.

Choose from deluxe rooms ideal for 2 adults and 2 children or 3 adults, to their Premier rooms and Club Suites ideal for families or those after a truly luxurious experience. A day in the life at Amari Bangkok

When staying in one of the hotel’s Club rooms or suites, guests have exclusive access to Club Siraa on the ninth floor. Privileges include breakfast, a snack bar, and evening beverages that you can sip while admiring the skyline views of downtown Bangkok.

You can also take advantage of private check-in (and check-out) in the Voyager Lounge, where I am greeted with a complimentary glass of refreshing Longan Fizz – a non-alcoholic drink native to South East Asia. It’s these small touches that really set the Amari Bangkok apart, marrying a bespoke luxury feel with a prime location and extensive attention to detail.

Once settled into my room, where I take in the inviting bed and sweeping views, I take the opportunity to enjoy the hotel’s wellness amenities to soothe my body after a long day of travelling. A plunge in the outdoor pool followed by a moment in the sauna releases some of the tension, but it’s the full-body massage that I’m most looking forward to. Using traditional Thai techniques and essential oils, I’m sent into a state of tranquillity.

The pool at the Amari Bangkok Hotel

Of course, this is all hungry work, and Amari Bangkok offers a wide selection of restaurants to suit whatever your tastebuds desire. Dining options consist of the Amaya Food Gallery, Italthai Cellar, Prego Italian restaurant, Bar Milano, ChomSindh, NILA and the Pool Bar. One of the newest restaurants, ChomSindh, serves Thai freshwater and seafood delicacies. Represented even through the textured sapphire blue plates, the restaurant takes you on a gastronomical journey through Thai waters, telling a story of a man and his family’s voyages on the sea on his grandfather’s yacht.

The décor is proudly traditional with a modern, up-market twist. An open kitchen allows you to watch the chefs crafting your meal wherever you’re sat. Each dish features plants and herbs that have been grown on-site for an unrivalled freshness and flavour. Nestled amongst the towering urban landscape on the eighth floor, plants such as lemongrass, basil, and kaffir lime grow. My crab curry was a delicious example of this unwavering commitment to sustainability.

For an alternative, yet just as remarkable dining experience, NILA offers dishes inspired by the nearby Indian coastlines with Portuguese influences. On the night of my visit, the restaurant was celebrating the final day of Diwali. Through a 10-course set menu, I was invited to join these celebrations.

Vicky, the restaurant manager, took me through each of the dishes as they arrived at my table. He carefully explained the inspiration behind each dish and shared knowledge of Indian geography and heritage.

My personal highlights from the menu included the amuse bouche selection of Phal Dhoka, Wada Bao, and Khara Puff, the first entrée of marinated red snapper with pineapple chutney, and the Goan Chocolate Ball for dessert.

Not only was the food delicious, but it was a theatrical spectacle. For one dish, a banana leaf parcel was set aflame to create a smoky taste for the Mutton Donne Biryani within. You have to see it to believe it.

Finally, an evening beverage can be enjoyed from either the luxury wine bar Italthai Cellar on the fourth floor or Bar Milano in the lobby.

Beyond the Hotel

Wat Phra Sri Sanphet – one of the several temples I visited on a tour of the Historic City of Ayutthaya

Further north, the Historic City of Ayutthaya is something to marvel at. A guided tour will take you on the 75km journey while also visiting several other historic points of interest, such as the Bang Pa-In Royal Palace and Wat Chaiwatthanarm. At Wat Mahathat you can see the tree that has remarkably grown around the Buddha’s head.

These tours can last up to nine hours, so make sure to look out for one which includes lunch, or bring your own so you don’t get hungry. Remember to also bring plenty of water to stay hydrated.
