Combining Sightseeing and Poker: A Perfect London Itinerary

London is one of the biggest attractions for visitors from all over the world. England’s capital has one of the highest densities of tourist sites and there is simply so much history showcased across the city.

Among the museums, art galleries, cathedrals, sporting arenas and more, London is also home to some of the best poker playing venues worldwide. Many poker tourists have London firmly on their bucket list, along with other obvious destinations such as Las Vegas and Monte Carlo.

If you’re an offline or online poker enthusiast and you also love the sights and sounds of old London town, here’s how you can combine your two passions.

Combining with a Theatre Trip

The highest density of physical casinos can be found in London’s West End. Also known as ‘Theatreland,’ this is the place to be if you want to catch a show, and you can play a few hands of poker before or after the event.

Some of the world’s oldest theatres are located in this district, and for many overseas visitors, a trip wouldn’t be complete without heading here. Venues such as the Haymarket, the Palladium, the Adelphi and the Coliseum host all of the top musicals and plays.

There are plenty of casinos nearby, including the Hippodrome which was once renowned as a top-class theatre venue in its own right. The Empire Casino is another option in the heart of Leicester Square.

Sport and Poker

Many offline and online poker players also have a love for professional sport, and there’s scope to indulge both in the capital city. One of the newest poker rooms can be found in Stratford’s Westfield Shopping Centre.

This part of East London came alive in the lead up to the 2012 Olympics and that’s the year that Aspers Casino made its bow. Along with slots, roulette and other table games, there’s lots of choice for poker players and seats are available 24/7.

Along with the obvious potential to enjoy a shopping trip in Westfield, visitors can also take in some top class sport. Having served its country well at the Olympics, the London Stadium became the permanent home for Premier League football club West Ham United.

In the summer, official Major League baseball games have been played at the ground. It’s a similar story over at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium which is a short train ride away. EPL team Spurs play here, while the club has a contract with the NFL to host regular season matches.

Park Life

Music is a big part of London life, and many overseas tourists like to journey here to take in a concert. From orchestral arrangements at the Royal Albert Hall, you can choose to see up and coming bands at smaller venues such as The Roundhouse in Camden Town.

Open air concerts are also widespread across the capital, and one of the best places to see them is at Hyde Park. Situated in the borough of Westminster, this is where major artists such as The Rolling Stones and Robbie Williams come to play.

These musicians have such an appeal that the smaller venues cannot cope with the subsequent demand. That’s why outdoor locations such as Hyde Park step in to accommodate a larger audience. Of course, when no concerts are planned, you can simply walk around the park and enjoy its natural beauty.

While here, it’s also possible to play at one of London’s best-loved casinos. The Sportsman prides itself on professional gaming and likens the experience to that of Las Vegas. Others claim it has an intimate atmosphere, but whatever your taste in casino play might be, there are 17 live tables here that can indulge you.

Museums and More

London is proud to feature some of the best and most important museums in the world. Many of these can be found within a short walk of Russell Square tube station. The most popular of these is the British Museum which contains the best global collection of important historical artifacts.

You could spend a whole day here, but it’s recommended to seek out other locations such as the Camera Museum, the Wellcome Collection and the Museum of Comedy.

Casino players are looked after via the Grosvenor Casino in Russell Square. Alternatively, a short walk will take them to Tottenham Court Road and the Grosvenor Casino St Giles. Situated on the edge of Oxford Street, this is the best option for combining casinos and shopping.

Whether you’re north, south, east or west, London has something to keep you entertained. There are fascinating tourist sites on all four points of the compass, and there are plenty of activities too.

While here, you can also play at any of the high quality casinos that feature across the capital. If combining casino play with sightseeing is your thing, London is truly the place to be.
