This summer, the city is getting a hotel opening that we just can’t wait for. The Covent Garden Hotel is re-opening in July and we have all the details…
London is a city with a little of everything. It is steeped in history yet also features some of the most stunning and contemporary architectural designs of the 21st century. The skyline features bold glass facades standing shoulder to shoulder with Victorian brick townhouses and every street you wander down has its own tales to tell. One such area is Covent Garden and if you take a meander through the piazza, past the bustling shops, cafes and street performers you will come to Covent Garden Hotel. An iconic figure on London’s skyline, it is set to re-open on the 29th of July of 2021. And we have all the details.
The history of Covent Garden Hotel
The Covent Garden Hotel first opened in April 1996 by owners Tim and Kit Kemp, the owners of Firmdale Hotels, yet this was far from the date that the building first appeared in the city. In fact, the building dates back to 1860 when it operated as a French hospital. It remained a working hospital until 1992 when it closed for good, only to be brought back to life four years later as a hotel. Surrounded by charming cobbled streets and right in the heart of the theatre district, it is located in a spot that has all you could wish for and more when discovering the city.
What food can I expect at Covent Garden Hotel?
There are a host of boutiques, restaurants, cafes and bars within walking distance as well as the hotels own bar and restaurant, Brasserie Max where you can enjoy a range of seasonal brasserie-style food overseen by Head Chef Paul Shields. The restaurant seats 50 with a further 50 at the bar. It is the ideal spot for pre or post-theatre dining, cocktails in the evening or to spend an evening languidly sipping one of their many wines over their carefully prepared, seasonal dishes. From breakfast, lunch and dinner to coffee or cocktails, Brasserie Max at the Covent Garden Hotel is the ideal space to suit.
What amenities can I find?
The interior of the hotel itself is “a quirky take on traditional English style” and was designed by Co-Owner and Creative Director, Kit Kemp. Reflecting her personal attention to detail, the ground floor is just like a stage set. Head up a beautiful sweeping stone staircase and you are led into a sumptuous wood-panelled drawing room and library, each with a log burning fireplace, quirky furniture and vivid upholstery. Watch films or hire out the state-of-the-art screening room for a private event, work up a sweat in the fully equipped gym or enjoy some well-deserved rest and relaxation in the beauty room.
What are the rooms like at Covent Garden Hotel?
Rooms-wise there are 58 carefully designed bedrooms and suites in the Covent Garden Hotel, characterized by bespoke furniture, oversized headboards and specially designed lighting. Modern art adorns the walls and Kit Kemp’s eye for detail is evident in every aspect. The bathrooms are often a highlight in a hotel and with luxuriously designed interiors in granite, mahogany and glass, it does not disappoint. Relax and refresh under walk-in showers, avoid any battles for the sink while getting ready with double basins and lather yourself with exclusive, bespoke bath products “RIKRAK” created by Kit Kemp.
