How To Have The Perfect Staycation

Recent years have seen a rise in the popularity of “staycations,” and this trend is understandable. In case you’re unfamiliar with the term, a staycation is a holiday in which you spend most of your time relaxing at home and only venture out for day trips to nearby attractions in your own city.

To put it simply: it is as much fun as it sounds. Only if it’s done properly, though. The reality is that a staycation could be rather dull if you don’t have at least some idea of what you want to do. With that in mind, read on to find out how to plan – and have – the perfect staycation.

Take A Tour Of Your Town

You would be mistaken if you thought a tour of your own city was solely for tourists. In our rush to get to work or to engage in our daily routines, we often fail to see the unique features and rich history that exist just in our own backyards. To truly get a feel for your own city like a visitor, try downloading a self-guided walking tour app or perusing walking-tour information on your local tourism bureau’s website. Discovering a new area or looking at a familiar one with fresh eyes can teach you a lot. It’ll be very cheap (if not free) and may help you see your own town in a whole new light.

Don’t forget you can go further afield too. You can take trains or buses to new places and explore them, or you can look for a vehicle at Mercury Rent-A-Car if you prefer driving. Just because you’re holidaying at home, that doesn’t mean home is where you have to be all the time.

Have A Home Spa Day

If you can’t go to a spa, the next best thing is to have a relaxing day at home with the best home spa products. If you are going to do it, do it to the fullest. Get a nice robe, light some candles, play a spa playlist, and get ready for your treatments. You can feel as refreshed as after a full day at the spa with anything from a long, relaxing bath with oils to a facial at home with masks and creams.

Take A Class

Have you ever seen classes advertised online or locally and wished you could join them, but you’re too busy to do it thanks to work and other everyday responsibilities? You can use some of your staycation time to finally indulge in one of these classes and learn something new.

There are a number of ways to do this. You might take a virtual class, for example, where you can learn at home. Or you could attend a course that takes place at a time you wouldn’t normally be able to commit to. You can go alone or with friends; the choice is yours.

Find A Good Balance

Finding a happy medium between active pursuits and downtime is essential for a successful staycation. If you try to cram too much into your holiday, you can leave yourself more worn out than before. Get home at a reasonable hour every day so you can get enough sleep and really make the most of your time off.
