For one day only, you can get the chance to zipwire over some of London’s most iconic landmarks with the Evelina London zip.
170ft high, it will runover the Thames on the 2nd December 2016 from the roof of St Thomas’ Hospital to Victoria Tower Gardens next to the Houses of Parliament. It will reach top speeds of 40mph and cover a distance of 1,519ft – so is certainly not something for the faint hearted!
The line is being set up to raise funds towards the £2.7million needed to build a dedicated Clinical Research Facility at Eveline London to allow vital research to improved treatments and cures for a whole range of conditions such as kidney disease, autism, epilepsy, congenital heart disease and allergies. The idea itself was thought up by a London Fire Brigade Chief Andy Roe to riase money for the hospital which saved his nine year old son’s life.
“My son might not be alive if it weren’t for the NHS, especially Evelina London, so I wanted to find a way to thank the remarkable staff.
“During the many hours I spent by my son’s bedside, I realised that I could use my specialist skills to rig up a zip wire from the roof of the hospital. It will feel like you are flying directly into the Houses of Parliament.”
Only twenty lucky people will get the opportunity to make this unique trip across the Thames and will be toasted at the end with a champagne reception as well as getting the chance to hear from some of the amazing clinicians who work to save children’s lives every single day.
