Swedish School of Textiles SS16 Show Review

The Swedish School of Textiles SS16 show was definitely one that got people’s attention.

The Swedish School of Textiles SS16 collection featured a number of cutting edge Swedish designers & didn’t fail to shock and impress. The show included names such as Emilia Elfvik, Camilla Arnbert and Sara Berg.

The overall collection was a heady mix of volume, asymmetric cuts and boundary pushing ideas. The pallet was mainly muted but texturally it was extremely varied from latex to cotton to leather.

The show catered to the weird and wonderful featuring wearable pieces such as oversized grey houndstooth coats on top of black leotards, to all in ones featuring shower curtain style headpieces. Another runway showstopper was the pinstripe monochrome maxi dress complete with a clear oversized plastic bag cape that billowed behind dramatically.

There were also tongue in cheek references to modern culture with Sara Berg’s OMG collection which was arguably the pinnacle on the show. Complete with bold sequinned emoticon dresses that covered the models faces and captured everyone’s attention.

The youth and energy that these designers have translated into their collections whether it be in their monochromatic slogan jumpers or their oversized camouflage bomber jackets. This years collection clearly set out to make a statement and with the strong looks that hit the catwalk there’s no denying it did just that.
