Think about their personal style
While there are many beautiful rings out there, it’s important to think of the recipient’s personal style when choosing something. You are asking to marry them so should have a pretty good sense of what they will and won’t like – and don’t be afraid to enlist the help of a close friend or relative too. Consider their lifestyle
The engagement ring you choose will stick with your other half for the rest of their lives. This is why it’s important to consider their lifestyle, so what their job entails and what they do in their day to day lives. If their job involves taking care of people or working a lot with their hands, consider something which doesn’t have elevated diamonds as these can catch easily. If she has a more hands-on job that involves getting her hands messy (such as a chef, artist or gardener) consider the fact it will need to be easy to clean.
Review your budget
It can be easy to get carried away when looking at a whole array of engagement rings, but it’s important to keep your budget in mind at all times. You don’t want to start married life worrying about having to pay back a large sum for the ring! Know her ring size
Don’t forget one of the most important things about getting your ring – it has to be the right size! It can be disappointing and anti-climatic to have to send a ring back once the big proposal has happened so you want it to be as near to right as possible. There are many ways you can do this – why not find one of her rings that she has left in her jewellery box (that you know fits) and bring it with you to the store? You could try to measure it by slipping a piece of string around her finger while she sleeps, or ask a friend to playfully try one on her rings on so you can compare it for size later on. If the ring does need to be resized it’s not the end of the world, but remember it’s easier to get a ring made smaller than larger, so if in doubt get it in a bigger size.
