Carloe London bags encapsulate precise tailoring, expert craftsmanship and impeccable style…
If you’re yet to hear of Carloe London, get ready to clear space in your wardrobe and make a dent into your savings, for they’re a bag label you’re going to want to invest in. Set up by artist Hannah Ludnow, she has transferred her obsession for colour and intricate display from her Columbia Road Gallery in East London to fashion – and had already made her mark.
Ludnow speaks of fashion as a form of art, she says “We consider colour combinations subconsciously when we clothe ourselves, it’s an expression we all make on a daily basis.” She explains how she has spent most of her life playing and experimenting with colour and form in the context of oil painting, considering the relationship between the two, and wanted to design a range of bags that reflected these subtleties and the joy in combining colours which compliment or clash in a pleasing way.
The collection consists of limited colour combinations or bags and purses and are all handmade in London by a very small team of experienced leather craftsman. They use Italian vegetable tanned leather which is a traditional craft and it can take 5-12 weeks from start to finish! The first collection from the label sees two key bag designs – the Edie Box and the Middle Saddle bag. Each come in a choice of colours coupled with a complimentary or clashing coin purse. Each colour combination has a limited run of 50 ensuring exclusivity. You can decide between either a cross body webbing strap or a chunky shoulder length chain depending on the use and occasion.
The Edie box in burgundy (as can be seen above) retails at £280. It includes a coral pink purse with khaki zip and the interior features two compartments as well as an internal pocket section with a red zip and an exterior slip pocket for quick access.
