When it comes to picking clothes for your children, it can sometimes be tricky to get the balance right between looking good and withstanding future wear. Here are our top tips for picking children’s clothes this Autumn…

picking children's clothes Pick a general color scheme

It’s important when picking children’s clothes that you think of colours that can easily mix and match and can be worn with lots of different things. There is nothing worse than having lots of nice tops and bottoms, but that all clash and none that go together. Be mindful of this when choosing their clothes – try getting loose denim for bottoms and pastel-coloured tops and these are easy to switch around and always look good. Strawberry Children has a range of great colours to choose from.

Choose hard-wearing fabrics

While some children’s clothes may look great on the hanger, the realism is that they’re going to be raced around in, worn in the mud and rain and have to withstand play dough, paint and baking at home. Because of this, you want to ensure the fabrics you choose are hard-wearing and can withstand wear and tear of everyday use. You need to think of what will last in the wash and won’t have the colour fade too quickly. Be sure you also have a good sewing machine so you can fix them yourself at home too if the inevitable wear and tear does happen!

Pick trends that will last

While certain trends look great at the time, they can soon wear out and won’t look good in a couple of months. When picking children’s clothes, you want clothes that are timeless and will continue to look good – particularly when passed down to younger siblings. This means not only do you get your money’s worth, but it ensures all the clothes get the maximum wear possible – it’s better for the environment too!

Be aware of what they like to wear

While it’s important to factor in all the above when picking children’s clothes, you also need to be mindful of what they want to wear themselves too. One child might love skirts, the other comfy trousers – ensure you have enough they are happy to wear and make compromises such as leggings and dresses which makes their wardrobe more versatile.
