From gliding down the Ijsselmeer Lake on a stand-up paddleboard to exploring Vienna by an electric classic car and taking in the chocolate museum in Antwerp, there is more to do than ever. A-ROSA River Cruises have expanded their shore excursion programme for 2020 to include 48 new options. In total, a choice of over 250 excursions are now available, broken down into five categories: discovery; adventure; family; bicycle and gourmet.

A focus for 2020 has been to grow the range of more unusual tours, offering guests the chance to do something a little different and perhaps unexpected whilst on a river cruise. A-Rosa River Cruises’ Best Excursions also includes more activities and trips that are for individuals who would like a more intimate experience, rather than joining a full group tour. New options include:

  • Stand-up paddle boarding on IJsslemeer, Holland’s largest lake
  • A tour of Vienna by electric classic car
  • An exclusive boat tour of the Camargue
  • A trip to the local market with the ships Head Chef (Frankfurt and Budapest)
  • English speaking private tour guide for up to five people in cities such as Amsterdam, Bucharest, Strasbourg and more.

In addition, as a family-friendly river cruise line, A-ROSA has expanded its family options on the Rhine to include:

  • A trip to Amsterdam Zoo
  • A visit to a chocolate museum in Antwerp
  • Exploring Ehrenbrestein Fortress

These are available on the sailings with a kids club onboard.

Stand-Up Paddleboarding along Holland’s Largest Lake – For customers who want to get out on the water themselves, a new Stand-Up Paddleboarding session on the Ijsselmeer lake can be booked. The excursion transports guest to the watersports haven of Hoorn for a briefing with a SUP trainer, before they are free to paddle on the IJesslmeer lake. Duration 1.5 hours. Priced from €59 per person, bookable on board when sailing on the selected itineraries on the Northern Rhine.

Ride a Classic Car through Vienna – An unforgettable experience riding in a electric classic car based on a 1920’s original? Sit back in comfort in an electrically driven classic car with a maximum speed of 10km an hour. The relaxed pace allows guests to see the sights such as the Hofburg, the City Hall, Herrngasse and St. Stephen’s Square amongst other things. Each car holds up to five people. Duration 1.5 hours. Priced from €169 per car of max 5 people. Bookable on board when sailing on selected Danube itineraries.

Family – Antwerp Chocolate Museum – Every child loves chocolate and where better to visit a chocolate museum than in Belgium! Learn about the whole process of chocolate making, from the cocoa bean to the finished product and discover how filled chocolates are made. There are fascinating facts for chocolate lovers in each of the 14 rooms nd even the chance for a little taste along the way.  Duration 3 hours. Priced from €39 per person including transfers and admission. Bookable on board when sailing on a family cruise with a kids club on board.
