How to Give Your Box Room a Makeover

Date:

One issue with modern houses is that the rooms aren’t always the biggest, but that doesn’t mean you have to compromise on style. Here is how to give your box room a makeover…

One of the downsides to living in a modern home built within the last 50 years is that the rooms aren’t always big. That’s especially true for the box room – the smallest bedroom in any home and often too small to function as an ordinary bedroom.

You’re likely reading this because you’ve got a box room in your home, and you’re thinking of just using it as storage space instead of a functioning bedroom. The following tips will inspire you to change your mind and revamp your box room into an awesome bedroom:

Opt for Bright Wall Colours

Have you ever noticed how light or bright colours like white or yellow give the impression that a room is large when, in reality, it isn’t? It’s a “trick” you should consider as part of your box room revamp.

White is a cheap colour, but it’s not very interesting. With that in mind, you should consider opting for bright and bold colours. Avoid greys, and other dark colours as the box room will feel like you’re inside a matchbox.

Turn Your Radiator Into a Focal Point

There’s limited space to have several focal points in your box room. Still, that doesn’t mean you can’t create any focal points when giving your box room a makeover, and one example you should consider is the humble radiator.

You could paint it a contrasting colour, for instance, or you could choose from one of many magnetic radiator covers on the market. Another idea is to replace your radiator with a more slimline chrome-effect radiator if you’re going for a more upscale look.

Get Rid Of Your Curtains

The problem with curtains in box rooms is they make the usable space even smaller when they get drawn. You need some privacy in your box room, so you need to replace your curtains with something else. But, what should you consider instead?

One example is to have some attractive blinds installed. As you can appreciate, there are several different styles you can consider, from Roman blinds to Venetian-style blinds. When you get blinds fitted, the box room will still have plenty of perceived usable space.

Plus, when you open the blinds, you can roll them up quickly to let your box room flood with natural light (even on a rainy day).

Buy a Day Bed

Lastly, one of the problems with having a box room is that you can never easily decide if it will be a bedroom, a guest room, or just somewhere to dump stuff that doesn’t quite fit in anywhere else in your house. This is why when you give your box room a makeover you need to consider the logistics of this.

What you could do is make your box room into a spare room that kids can use if they stay over at your home. A day bed acts as a sofa during the day and converts into a bed in the evening.

You can buy day beds in various sizes and configurations, so you shouldn’t have any problems finding one that will fit in your box room easily.
