Four tips on how to save for your dream holiday

Date:

After almost two years of travel restrictions, most of us cannot wait to board an aeroplane to visit the most beautiful places in the world. Maybe it’s some psychological twist, but today, more people than ever before are willing to fulfil themselves the long-cherished wish of finally going on a real dream holiday. But as most of us know, travelling can be expensive.

To help with going on your dream holiday, we have put together a guide on four tips to save for your dream holiday.

Dream Holiday

Put That Money Aside

If you’re planning a holiday, make sure to plan. That way, you have time to save some money. It’s hard to put a set amount of money away each month because it may lack somewhere else. That’s why you should start sorting out your finances: How much money do you have at your disposal each month? How much do you spend? At the end of your list, you should be able to identify the amount of money that you can save each month. To be on the safe side, it may be best to open a designated bank account for your travel budget.

If you don’t have any specific plans yet, you may find it unnecessary to save money for travelling. But do keep in mind that you can benefit from that money whenever you start feeling the urge to travel – and the more time you have to save money, the more money you can save.

Adapt Your Requirements

What exactly does “dream holiday” mean to you? Exploring beautiful landscapes? Getting to know a foreign culture? Experiencing a specific lifestyle? As all-inclusive resorts have been the thing for a few decades now, we tend to forget that there are other great ways to accommodate yourself while travelling.

Glamping can be a lot of fun, but it’s not for everyone, and not wanting to dismiss your standards is totally okay. What about luxurious holiday homes with a private pool in Majorca? Would you prefer staying at an affordable three-star hotel, or would you prefer renting your very own place with all the amenities you can think of?

Reduce Unnecessary Expenses

Do you love that new skirt in the window of your favourite boutique? It can be a challenge to walk by without buying it, but it’s totally worth it if you keep the prospect of your dream holiday in mind. If you manage to save money each day by foregoing that cup of latte macchiato or the cool new lipstick colour, you’ll be surprised by how much more money you’ll be able to save every single month. That way, you’ll reach your travel budget a lot faster.

Create an Extra Income

If you realize that you won’t be able to put enough money aside to book your dream holiday, it’s time to generate some extra income. There are plenty of ways: Jobs in restaurants are very popular, especially as you usually get tipped there, too. If the local job market doesn’t hold anything in store for you, see if you can work online: If you have good writing skills or if you know how to build websites, you should be able to find businesses that you can support.

And even if you cannot find a good side job right away, there’s no need to give up hope. Rummage through your belongings and sell the things you don’t need anymore. If you manage to sell a shirt for two pounds, it may not be a lot, but it’s still two pounds more in your travel budget.

Work on Your Money Mindset

A good money mindset helps you keep track of your finances and priorities. As soon as you adjust your mindset, things will fall into place more or less automatically, and you can finally book that post-lockdown trip.
