When it comes to ticking all the festival boxes, Lovebox sure knows how to do it…
Friday 15th July, the sun is blazing over London and the potent smell of BO fills the air from the sweaty, outstretched arms on the London underground. As per usual, it’s shoulder to shoulder on the central line. As the suits disperse to their desk jobs and as we approach Mile End station for Lovebox, we are left with a bunch of youths all dressed in their festival attire. There was a real buzz in the air.
Surprisingly, the queue to collect our wristbands was minimal. The queue to the security grope was tedious. The second fondle was a bit over the top and the sniffer dogs at the other end were just plain cute. We were here and ready to fill our tums with beer and meat.
Reason 1 – The food at LoveBox is out of this world
You could literally eat at a different stall for breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper, both days and still have plenty of regrets for not eating even more. My first meal was a gorgeous Halloumi wrap from Wrappers Delight. We then grabbed some chips Pimp my Fries. Then finished off with a cone of churros that could compete with Spain. On the Saturday we stopped for some of Anna Mae’s famous mac n’ cheese (didn’t disappoint) and then also snacked on some (free) pizza.
Reason 2 – The audience are so friendly it’s scary
The entire day is filled with people who are super chilled. You can walk over to any ping pong table and play a match with some complete strangers. You can be sat next to a couple and spend the afternoon chatting. Some guy even bought us a pizza (he wasn’t at gunpoint).
Reason 3 – The whole festival is so chilled
If you’re into the hardcore, mosh pit-like festivals then Lovebox probably isn’t for you. Hell, I even saw people having a nap! We spent about 75% of the time laying on the grass, listening to some awesome sounds from Chet Faker, Izzy Bizu and Miike Snow amongst others.
Reason 4 – The Lovebox headliners turn the crowd into a rave that could compete with Coachella
Major Lazer were something else. We turned up about 45 minutes early to get a good spot and when we left it took us a good 20 minutes to shoulder our way through the crowd to catch our train. It felt like the entirety of London were there. They got everyone jumping, singing and boogying well into the night.
Reason 5 – Everyone’s taste is covered
Lovebox’s line up of phenomenal, eclectic artists covered every corner possible. If you’re a bit of a drum & bass fan? Sound crash stage has you covered. Like grime? Have a bit of Stormzy. Alternative? Chet Faker. The team at Lovebox nailed almost every genre under the sun and have a fantastic mix between new and upcoming artists like Jack Garrat and timeless tunes from people like Miike Snow and LCD SoundSystem.
