K West’s Studio Kitchen offers a delicious dining haven…
Located next to both Shepherd’s bush and Kensington Olympia Tube Station and a few minutes’ walk from Westfield Shopping centre, you have the K West Hotel’s Studio Kitchen, a hidden gem of a restaurant which is the perfect hideaway after a long day shopping. The exterior is well lit with an array of colourful lighting, creating a warm and welcoming presence and further emphasising the polished look and class of the hotel.
Due to the Studio Kitchen being part of a Hotel, when we walked in we were greeted by their friendly lobby staff who directed us to the bar, where we had the option to have a pre drink, before being guided to the main restaurant.
Having travelled from our office in Brighton, we were very hungry so we chose to dine straight away. The staff member guided us to the main restaurant (which sits just above the bar) where straight away you can see the time and effort they have spent to make this dining area a treat for guests. The contemporary lights hang down from the ceiling, creating a romantic scene as if from a movie, making this an ideal date location. The leather seating and dark wood furnishing came as a great addition, which only enhanced the warm feeling created in the restaurant. They had a nice subtle playlist in the background.
The starters were lovely; the timing was right, the portion size spot on and they tasted great. My only fault would be that there weren’t many options to choose from.
For my starter, I went for the crispy whitebait omelette which is something I had never tried before, but I was pleased I did. The Omelette was hot, tasty and the fish not too overpowering. The presentation was as good as it could get, considering it’s difficult to present an omelette very impressively!
Not being a big fish fan, my partner opted for the artisan bread selection. As far as bread selections go, this was one of the best we’ve had. The bread was well flavoured, but not too garlicky, the presentation was great and the accompanying dips delicious.
For mains, the menu didn’t quite have the wow factor, but it still had a variety of meals to choose from. They had an array of burgers which come accompanied with “skin on fries” and a selection of meat, fish and pasta dishes.
I ordered the 48-hour pork belly; as far as a pork belly goes this hit the spot perfectly. It was full of flavour and had a nice crunch to it. Being honest, out of all the pork bellies which I have tried, I wouldn’t say this was the best, but then it wasn’t the worst. It was well cooked; the vegetables accompanied with the side of chips, which I ordered complimented the dish and I was happily satisfied having finished the main.
My partner went for chicken cordon bleu which comes with ham, emmential cheese, piquillo peppers and Wye Valley green asparagus, (she always opts for chicken) a simple, yet effective dish. The knife glided through the chicken perfectly, the breaded skin wasn’t dry and the texture was perfect. The asparagus really complimented the chicken’s flavour and overall she was really pleased with this course.
After finishing off our starters and mains we were rather full, but having such a sweet tooth we couldn’t wait to get our hand on desserts. I opted for an English classic – Ice Cream! I chose three different scoops from their vast selection, which was to be accompanied by berries and strawberries and a nice chocolate wafer. By partner, feeling a bit more adventurous chose to go for the chocolate torte with vanilla ice cream.
Both desserts came out well presented and tasted great. The Ice cream was light, fruity and easy on the tongue whereas the chocolate torte was warm, rich and very chocolatey but just as easy to finish. The white/dark chocolate disc came as a nice added touch.
Overall this restaurant stepped up to the challenge. The food was great and the service impeccable. The waiters knew everything there is to know about their menu and gave us a night to remember. If you are heading to Westfield’s shopping centre, the K West should certainly be on your mind, as an alternative to the everyday restaurant within. Plus if you really wanted to treat yourself you could always stay in the hotel and visit their award winning spa.
