If you enjoy watching action movies you are in for a real treat in 2023, with the calendar packed with a plethora of exciting new releases.
Numerous upcoming movies are linked to film franchises, which online slots site Betway recently found can be some of the most successful movies.
Plenty of the films scheduled to be released fit that description, so let’s take a closer look at some of the top action movies you can look forward to watching over the next 12 months.
John Wick: Chapter 4
There have been plenty of rumours circulating that John Wick: Chapter 4 would be the final instalment of what has been a hugely successful series.
They were dismissed by director Chad Stahelski earlier this year when he confirmed there would be a fifth edition despite the upcoming film featuring some ‘conclusion’ elements.
Several new characters will be introduced in Chapter 4, which undoubtedly points to more films being released further down the line.
They include martial arts legend Donnie Yen, whose scenes with Keanu Reeves will likely spark plenty of excitement amongst John Wick fans.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One
Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) returns in the seventh instalment of the Mission: Impossible series and faces arguably his toughest threat to date.
Cruise first played Hunt 26 years ago and Dead Reckoning Part One will push him to the limit if the social media teasers are anything to go by.
Director Christopher McQuarrie has been extremely secretive about the plot, but he is likely to pull out all the stops to further cement the franchise’s legacy.
Esai Morales will star as the main villain in the movie – a role he will reprise in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two next year.
The Equalizer 3
The decision to reinvent the classic 1980s television series The Equalizer for a new generation took many people by surprise, but it certainly paid dividends.
The first two movies performed well at the global box office and it will be a major surprise if the third edition fails to deliver the goods.
Denzel Washington rarely stars in bad films and his portrayal of vigilante Robert McCall does justice to a character made famous by Edward Woodward.
With filming taking place on the Amalfi Coast in Italy before moving to Naples and Rome, The Equalizer 3 is guaranteed to be visually appealing.
The Expendables 4
Having exhausted Hollywood’s roster of iconic action movie stars in the first three films, The Expendables franchise appeared to have run its course.
However, the news that Jason Statham will have a bigger part to play in the fourth edition suggests there may be more to come in the future.
Expendables 4 has also cast Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson and Megan Fox in major roles, which should attract a different generation of moviegoers to the theatres.
The inclusion of Asian actors Tony Jaa and Uwo Ikwais will also widen the appeal of a franchise that was previously guilty of trading on nostalgia.
