Bora Aksu AW16 has us longing for winter
Encapsulating that captivating romance in a way only Bora Aksu knows how, his Autumn/ Winter collection is one full of opulence and desire.
This seasons show was held in St Andrews Church, the historically beautiful venue a real testament to the new collection. The soft chinks of light from the narrow windows splashing over the monochromatic floor and laying to rest over the beautiful gilt columns were a real representation of Aksu’s Autumn/Winter pieces. Soft chinks of gold mingled with delicate detailing on black base fabrics play a large part in the collection.
Grand Duchess Olga of Russia significantly inspired Aksu. Her complex story of a girl who lived life at both ends of the spectrum led to his experimentation with starkly contrasting fabrics. Her life was split between the years after the Russian Revolution – a very sparse lifestyle, farming and doing household work whereas in the years prior to this she lived in pure grandeur.
The collection marries together this opulence with simplicity, the juxtaposing elements capturing the beauty of folk romanticism, something delicately interwoven with each piece. Embroidered fabrics in lush intense shades, deep fuschia hues and cool aubergine splashes further portray romance, with stark black elements adding an aura of mystery and the unknown. The overall effect is truly breathtaking.
The dresses in particular really combine a sense of traditional, modern and sophisticated femininity, marrying together richly striking silhouettes and soft embroidery. Long tailored cocoon coats, cropped tailored jackets, capes, shirts and skirts all form the collection as separates. Fabrics throughout contain a variety of enticing textures from patchwork to pleats and embroideries, adding layer upon layer of folk romanticism and heritage.
One thing is for sure, this is a collection you are sure to fall head over heels in love with.
