How many castles!?

Did you know… Wales is home to more castles per square mile than any other country in the world. Over 600 in fact.

If that wasn’t enough, Wales is home to the second largest castle in Europe, Caerphilly Castle. The largest in Europe can also be found in the UK – Windsor Castle!

Mount Snowdon

Did you knowMount Snowdon is the highest mountain to be found within Wales. the highest peak reaches 1,085m / 3,560ft.

You’ll find that climbing Mount Snowdon is on many people’s bucket lists – is it on yours?

Royalty and Welsh Gold

Did you know… The British royal family always uses pure Welsh gold for their wedding rings. The tradition was first started in 1923 by Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyons and has been a tradition kept by the royals ever since.

Will you be browsing any of the Welsh gold jewellery shops on your visit?

National Emblems

Did you know… Wales has not one, but two national emblems!

It has both the leek and daffodil as its national emblems due to some confusion around the Welsh name – Cenhinen means leek, whilst Cenhinen Bedr means daffodil, but translates as ‘Peter’s leek’.

Worried people wouldn’t know the difference between each one, they decided to adopt both emblems to avoid confusion.

Maths Signs

Did you know… Welsh mathematician Robert Recorde invented the equals (=) sign. Not only did he do this within his lifetime, 1512 – 1558, but he also introduced the plus (+) and the minus (-) mathematical signs, as well as algebra to Britain.

Sheep

Did you know… there are more sheep living in Wales than people.

Wales has a population of 3.1 million people, but it is thought that there are nearly 10 million sheep grazing wild and free on the luscious Welsh lands.

See how many you can spot when you visit (it could take a while)!

Swallow Falls

Did you know… Wales is home to the most visited waterfall in the UK.

Swallow Falls at Betws-y-coed is the most visited waterfall in the United Kingdom, and if and when you visit it for yourself, you’ll see why it’s so popular.

If you do visit, make sure to pop down to Fairy Glen, which is said to be the home to many fairies – will you spot any when you visit?

Now you know a few interesting facts about Wales, will you be booking a trip to the land of the red dragon any time soon?
