Dim T – a sumptuous taste of China by the Thames

There’s no denying that London has just as many Chinese restaurants as it does red buses, so if you can resist being enticed into Chinatown why not try a place a little south of the city that basks in the shadow of Tower Bridge? Dim T has numerous branches but their London Bridge one offers gorgeous views of the city a stones throw away from City Hall. What better way to spend your evening than scoffing comforting Chinese food whilst appreciating London in all its beauty?

Upon arrival we were seated downstairs in a comfy corner seat complete with cosy cushions and again that spectacular view behind us. On a Thursday night the restaurant was buzzing but not overly loud so you could easily have a conversation without having to sit on your companions lap. Dim T (this particular branch) exists over two floors and the walls are adorned with Chinese artwork and low hanging lamps. In fact gazing at the view in soft low lighting with oriental decor and the general ambiance, it would actually be a great place to go to for a date.

On to the food- the most important part! Dim T’s menu is varied so the only problem you may have is deciding what to actually order. After much deliberation we ordered some of Dim T’s beef and chive dim sum steamed buns which were moist and flavourful. Served in traditional bamboo stacked pots they were the perfect way to wet our appetite. Then we moved onto mains ordering the Shanghai lemon chicken garnished with shredded carrots and bean sprouts and accompanied with a side of stir fried egg noodles. The lemon chicken was succulent and fresh complimenting the egg noodles perfectly. In case that wasn’t enough we also had the beef rendang and rice. The beef was delicious served with steamed rice and made to be eaten with gusto. We were able to chat leisurely without an overpowering service yet I couldn’t sing the praises of the staff here enough. From the moment we set foot in the door they went above and beyond to make sure that we had everything we needed. Attentive staff, great ambiance, incredible food and a wonderful view, the list why this place is so great goes on but those are the main factors that would draw you in.

However I must not forget the essential part of any meal, the dessert! After a heady mix of carbs upon carbs (don’t underestimate how killer this combination is) dessert had to be something light and something good for sharing. Therefore we ordered the chocolate sukiyaki which was a rich sauce in fondue format. Complete with a selection of marshmallow, pineapple, banana and lychee it provided just the right amount of sweetness to end our meal. All washed down with a lychee ice tea and ginger and honey tea, the main issue we had was getting out as we were well into food coma mode at this stage. Dim T also specialise in a wide variety of teas that look more like works of art than they do but they’re delicious nonetheless.

The prices are reasonable considering the location and the food is filling and fresh. All in all with an inviting ambiance Dim T is perfect for anyone with a penchant for riverside dining and a love of good Asian Cuisine.
