Jansz Restaurant Review Amsterdam – A culinary treat right on the canal

Head to Jansz Restaurant Amsterdam for unbeatable dining in the city…

Sat in the Prisengracht district of Amsterdam, Jansz is an effortless yet upscale all-day dining restaurant. Simply elegant, it can be accessed through the Pulitzer Hotel or from a quaint door on the street. The restaurant is named after 17th century craftsman Volkert Jansz – “a man with discerning taste, a keen eye for style and a passion for conversation and debate.”

It’s warm, inviting and expertly designed in every detail. Black vintage-look chairs are tucked into marble-topped tables and gold panelling adorns the walls.
Breakfast here is delicious – deliriously fluffy pancakes drowning in chocolate sauce and crunchy hazelnuts and topped with fresh cream, french toast hugging fat strawberries and raspberries and topped with a dusting of sugar. A continental and more savoury options are also available  and trust me – it’s a breakfast well worth getting up for.

For dinner, Jansz is somewhere you can really dress up for, or wear something a bit more comfortable yet you’ll never feel out of place. The air is thick with the delicious smells of fresh cooking wafting from the open kitchen and the lighting is warm and inviting. You can hear the sounds of glasses chinking in celebration, wine pouring, knives and forks carving and the animated chatter you only get when everyone in a room is completely relaxed – a sign you know you are in good hands.

The food choices are just enough to satisfy a plethora of palettes, yet not too many that the kitchen is stretched. You know that your dish is being done well – and real care is being taken. Starters consist of the likes of tuna tartare, pea soup and braised meatballs, with a few other options inbetween. You can choose from a salad from your main, or from the main menu which includes salmon, cod, poussin, lamb, steak, lobster risotto and an orecchiette pasta dish. Each dish is cooked to perfection, tender and succulent and crispy where required, oozing a plethora of flavours that tantalise the taste buds. Portions are a good size and as you bask under the gentle glow of the lights, soothing music playing in the background it is hard not to let your worries melt away and let the deliciousness of the food and the atmosphere take you by the hand.Jansz Restaurant Review Amsterdam

It is worth saving room for dessert at Jansz – all sorts of sweet treats from creme brulee and chocolate fondant to ‘Vla’ Dutch custard and homemade cookies feature on the menu.

Before leaving be sure to pop next door to the Hotel Pulitzer bar for a cocktail or two – you’ll be glad you did!
With views of the canal, a relaxed atmosphere and unbeatable delicious dishes, Jansz restaurant is a real highlight in the city and somewhere you need to go when in Amsterdam. Pop in for breakfast, lunch or dinner (or perhaps all three!) and there’s no way you’ll be disappointed.
