Classic Countryside gets a contemporary twist with Peter Jensen’s SS17 Collection.

Whilst fashion is not impartial to a green-fingered moment, Peter Jensen took it that one step further with his greenhouse construction for his SS17 presentation. With pots of blooming flowers and an eccentrically garden-themed collection, it seemed almost a nod of ‘brexitness’ – encouraging all that is truly British.
Whilst a far cry from the grass-stained jeans and bright pink crocs worn by most gardeners across the country, Jensen’s collection was a playful take on the traditional, whilst remaining eminently wearable.

The “Rhoda” collection was worn by 12 eccentric-looking models in both headscarves and hairscarves, a rather beautiful creating which we’re not quite sure if we can see being pulled-off on the high street or not. The hair was parted in two at the back and then knotted beneath the chin in the style of a traditional headscarf. Makeup wise it was all about the earthy colours, with yellow eye shadow and cool brown lips. Skin was dewy and dotted with freckles, encapsulating that perfect countryside-feel.

The collection itself included a range of classic A-line dresses and sweaters in a myriad of vivacious prints, cuts and colours. Tiny sheep adorn some of the fabrics, dancing between intersecting block colours, tiny hearts on a dress print make a nod towards femininity and a swamping pink gingham number makes a real statement. Light knitted jumpers in a classic striped style make a nod towards the more tradition look and a fast favourite of mine was a grey, white and black striped cardigan, oozing British elegance. There are some beautiful monochrome jackets within the collection which are ideal for the Spring and Summer season and an eccentric black floral cover up which is sure to turn heads.
