Review: Plus X Innovation, A Brighton Coworking Space That Has It All

The pandemic showed us that jobs which previously were thought to be only office based could be done from anywhere, and many companies and employees revelled in the flexibility and cost-saving that working from home brought. While many have gone back to the office, over a quarter of working adults in Great Britain were hybrid working in the Autumn of 2024, and as of the third-quarter of 2025, there were 4.4 to 5 million self-employed or freelance people working in the UK. This leaves a lot of individuals trying to find a corner in their home to get jobs done.

Plus X Innovation

While working from home is great, it can also be isolating and challenging to focus when you have numerous other tasks around you that need attention. It’s too easy to tick off a work task, then nip to put your washing on. Or perhaps you’re on a call and spot cobwebs in the corner of the ceiling that you can’t put out of your mind until they’ve been swept. Your step count is abysmal by the end of the day and you realise the only other individual you’ve spoken to is your cat. I was in this situation myself last year, which led me to search for a coworking space. I recently moved down to Lewes from London and stumbled across Plus X Innovation

Plus X Innovation – A Brighton Coworking Space With a Difference

An entire building dedicated to coworking, there’s a Plus X in Moulsecoomb Brighton, and one in Slough. At £150 per month + VAT I figured I’d give it a go and see if it led to me bringing in extra income and if the benefits justified the cost and the commute.

A stone’s throw from Moulsecoomb station, Plus X Innovation is super easy coworking space in Brighton to get to. It’s well connected by bus too, whether you’re coming from Lewes like me, Brighton, Burgess Hill, or a surrounding area.

The building has seven floors, mostly dedicated to coworking spaces (others are for private offices and workshops) designed to support innovators, startups and growing businesses. A member of the team tells me how the space is equipped to support a new business at every stage from conception to marketing.

There’s a workshop downstairs, complete with 3D printers and laser-cutters, where you can create a product, a photography studio available to hire by the hour to capture images, and plenty of desk space where you can set yourself up to create a website and do your social media. Other facilities include a podcast studio, a fitness studio and a rooftop space ideal for taking a breather or eating lunch al fresco.

Member Events

Plus X Innovation hosts regular member events and innovation programmes, and through partnerships like the BRITE initiative with the University of Brighton, it supports local businesses with funding, expert advice and research connections. A lot of coworking spaces I’ve been to offer just a desk space, or perhaps free drinks on a Friday (Plus X do this too!) but here you really feel part of something great. It’s hard not to feel motivated in such a contemporary and well-equipped space, with other like-minded individuals around you.

There is a calendar of events that always has something great happening, from talks about the future of marketing, to running clubs, to networking lunches. Some of the events I’ve got to attend include a talk on the future of AI, a coffee break complete with apple strudel flavoured tea and caramel sweet treats, and a networking pizza lunch which offered a fantastic opportunity to get to know some of the others in the building.

Different Types of Spaces

There are a few different coworking spaces to choose from, depending on how you like to work. From the mezzanine level that offers a beautifully bright space complete with large tables to network and work from, to smaller nooks you can find, or larger communal areas. Each floor has a kitchen with complimentary tea, coffee and hot chocolate. You can often find fruit baskets and healthy snacks placed out for everyone to enjoy – another nice touch that adds to the membership. If you want to take private calls, there are a number of stylish booths on each floor, ideal for getting away from the main area. Each room is equipped with two chairs, pens and paper, a rubix cube and even a relaxing room spray to help calm those pre-meeting nerves!

A Positive Boost to Your Business

Instead of dragging myself out of bed and wearily opening my laptop at my dining room table, staying in loungewear until the afternoon and getting easily distracted, I find I’m excited to start the day. I start enjoying getting dressed for the day again, and when I get home I put my laptop away and don’t feel the urge to continue working until the late hours of the evening. When surrounded by others hard at work, I don’t sit and doom scroll or quickly check my social media (that leads to 30 minutes of distraction), instead, I make each minute count. My productivity has gone up, while my actual working hours are down.

The team is fantastic and no matter what business you’re in, whether you’re part of a larger company, or a freelancer, there’s always someone to chat to and something to get involved in. The space is extremely tidy and well-kept and for the cost you pay, it’s more than worth every penny. No matter if you want a coworking space to get you out of the house, for the social aspect, or to give yourself a motivating place to work and learn, I can’t recommend Plus X Innovation enough.
