Feeling Confident In Your Smile

How you feel about your smile can have a big impact on how much you’re going to enjoy yourself in group situations, how much you will want to be in photos and your general daily life. When we are conscious of something, it becomes what we focus on often, and that means that we won’t be able to relax. 

A smile is something that we use to display joy, happiness, and more. Usually something with the people we care the most about. But what if you don’t love your smile? You find yourself hiding it in photographs or not being in photos at all. Perhaps, when you laugh with friends, you move your lips in a specific way to cover them?

Well, while smile-confidence won’t just appear overnight, it is something that you can actively work on. Here are some of the ways that you can become more confident in your smile. 

Fake It

When it comes to confidence, one of the most rolled-out sentences is ‘fake it till you make it’. Mentally you need to get into a position where you feel confident, and sometimes you might need to talk yourself into it. Start to focus on the things you have achieved; usually, these things make you smile automatically – and let it happen. 

Think about the people you know who smile all the time. Do they have perfect teeth? If you asked them, would they think they had perfect teeth? 

Make a point of smiling often at home and then outside too. 

Dental Hygiene 

Taking care of your teeth is a must; even if you don’t love them, you need to have a great dental routine. Whitening toothpaste, or toothpaste that takes care of your specific dental needs, flossing correctly, and a good mouthwash are a solid base. But, when it comes to things like whitening, straightening and fixing cracks or gaps, then composite bonding, braces, and professional whitening is a good idea. 

Perfectly-imperfect

Part of what makes people great is that they are all different, and part of those differences is things that people often call imperfections. However, they aren’t necessarily imperfections that are just part of us. If you don’t like the idea of having dental work done, it is important to get comfortable with your uniqueness. 

When you embrace all parts of yourself, you will start to feel more confident in your own skin – and with your smile too!

To work on this one, practice with your friends and family. Next time one of them points out something that makes them feel self-conscious, then make sure that you work on boosting them up – and take exactly what you’ve said and use it on yourself next time you think about hiding your smile away from the world.
