In partnership with the Contemporary Collective, Bankside Hotel is delighted to announce its seventh artist in residence, Rod McIntosh. His residency runs from now until 10 Jan 2020. There is plenty of time to get your craft hat on and enjoy the many art offerings.
Who is Rod McIntosh?
Rod is a British artist represented by the Contemporary Collective & DegreeArt who uses ink to create marks inspired by mindfulness and meditation, along with the tradition of drawing. He is part of an ever-changing programme of makers in residence at Bankside Hotel’s makers studio. During his stay, guests are able to watch him practice his creative expertise and so be taken on an informative and artistic journey.
What is Bankside Hotel’s Makers Studio?
Bankside Hotel’s Makers Studio provides a permanent creative space and working with curators, Contemporary Collective champion up-and-coming creatives, covering a wide range of disciplines including design, painting, sculpture, film, drawing, printmaking, installation, new media and photography. During his stay, Bankside guests are able to watch artists practice their creative expertise and so be taken on an informative and artistic journey.

These morning mindfulness experiences will cultivate an openness to the day and provide an opportunity to reflect and recharge without judgment or fear. This event is an open-drop in session for anyone interested in experiencing the benefits of mindfulness and meditation. Some knowledge of mediation helpful, but not essential.

Join Rod for a mindfulness and ink painting workshop. Learn directly from the artist about his unique process of painting and thoughts towards creating art mindfully, being in the present moment, and meditation.
INK TECHNIQUE WORKSHOP – Friday 6th December, 10am – 12pm

This workshop will focus specifically on the artist’s use of brush strokes and mark making, exploring the variety of marks you can make with a brush in cultivating a broader language. Greatly influenced by the tradition of drawing, the artist’s techniques involves utilizing the body, the breath along with materials, and repetitive often-obsessive processes focusing attention to the present.

Join the gallery and Bankside Hotel team for a glass of wine at the Artists Studio for an intimate ‘Meet the Artist’ evening event at the Bankside Hotel’s studio space. Rod will be displaying the work produced during his residency and reflecting on his discoveries and learnings.
