Get ready to ‘take a chance’ on the most delightful afternoon tea experience in town, all inspired by Mamma Mia! the musical, as it celebrates its 26th birthday. What a delight it was being a part of the celebration at The Strand Palace Hotel for the launch of this fun afternoon tea in partnership with Mamma Mia! The Musical

Located in the centre of London’s West End. We were defiantly spoilt for choice, with a show stopping array of traditional Greek pastries, each inspired by ABBA songs and characters from the musical. Tanya’s Chiquitita Wrap, with yummy tikka marinated chicken. Or if you don’t fancy that how about, Voulez-Vent, a vole Vent filled with poached salmon, and my favourite, the Slipping Through My Fingers, cucumber and tzatziki finger sandwiches. My plus one had a number of allergies and so we flagged these with the wonderful catering team who kindly brought us a list of ingredients for each individual item, and showed us exactly what foods he could eat. He was thrilled with his allergen free selection, ‘Donna’s Dynamo Ball’ and ‘The Winner Takes The Scone’ were two of his particular favourites, as he grinned up at me and said “these are Abbalicious”

Did I mention the tea? They had a variety to choose from from, traditional British teas to Herbal and fruit infusions and my favourite, from the speciality teas -Greek Mountain Tea! This was a herbal tea made from the leaves of the Sideritis plant, which is commonly found in Greece. It was equisetum.

The location for this one of a kind afternoon tea, is located at The Palace Tea Parlour, it’s a charming spot with large round open elegant plush furniture, Pictures of the musical hung on the walls around the room, and of course you could hear the smash hit musical playing softly in the background. The catering team truly added to this experience and were incredibly helpful, especially when they flagged certain foods on the menu. It truly was a wonderful experience and goes hand in hand with a trip to the musical, which is only a 3 minutes Dancing Queen away. Which is exactly what we did as we headed to the show after our afternoon treats!

Mamma Mia! Has become the longest running West End Musical of all time, and what made this launch unique, was that it was graced by some of the cast of the show.

It was actually my first trip to see Mamma Mia, so I was super excited to experience it. My plus one had seen the show 7 times and was just as excited seeing it again.  It was such a special evening, filled with amazing food, wonderful company, plenty of laughter and lots of singing and dancing.

MAMMA MIA! celebrated its 25th birthday on 6 April 2024 and is now the third longest running West End musical of all time. Since premiering in London’s West End in 1999, the exhilarating smash-hit has become a global phenomenon, with a staggering 70 million people having seen it worldwide. It has extended its booking period to Saturday 28 March 2026 at London’s Novello Theatre, a Delfont Mackintosh Theatre, with tickets on sale from Friday 4 April.
