Garmence Wine Studio – wonderful wines without the fuss
London is a city thriving with aspiring wine-connoisseurs and weekend revellers alike. Restaurants, cafes and lazy park picnics akin to the sounds of clinking glasses and the steady pour of one of the nation’s favourite and more prestige tipples. Yet for many, the act of choosing a particular wine is a minefield- recognising a good wine is easy, yet identifying a Chardonnay from a Sauvignon Blanc a difficulty. And this is where Garmence Wine Studio comes in.
Founded three months ago by Charlotte Calvet, she’s aiming to quash the confusion and offer London’s 1.6million wine drinkers a curated collection of high quality wines.
Garmence is proud to offer a different approach to wine retail – removing the confusion by pledging to deliver an easy navigation of the site, straight forward delivery, fair prices and exceptional rates from quality and authentic wine makers across Europe. As the 7th generation of a family born in Bordeaux, the importance of high quality wine has been one passed through the family and with direct access to a worldwide network of trustworthy growers Charlotte has the expertise and knowledge required to deliver Garmence’s tailored and fuss-free approach to wine.
We were invited to taste Garmence’s delicious new offerings and advised on how wine should be an experience as opposed to simply a drink. We were told a little about each wine and then advised on the perfect food pairings – it was amazing to find just how much the different foods could bring out different tastes, textures and tangs from each wine and just how the food impacted the wine also.
Charlotte explained how it’s best for you to experiment with wine, find the one that is perfect for you and for the situation. Their Rosé is from Provance in France – something which is very fashionable at the moment- and has a deliciously fresh taste. Their Chardonnay is fresh and fruity but not too oaky, something often associated with such wine and their champagne is deliciously light upon the palette. Our real favourite of the evening was the Chanti Classico – described as the ‘sexy VIP of Italian wines’. This particular type is often very austere, yet Charlotte and her Father worked to make it smoother and more welcoming. Bold, sexy and bursting with mouthfuls of ripe cherries and plums, spice and a hint of tobacco and vanilla it’s a real treat for the tastebuds.
When speaking of Garmence, Charlotte said “We know memorable wines are those that linger and evoke a unique sensorial experience, fragrances that burst with warm, delightful aromas and colours that are spirited with body and clarity. Excellency; from soil to label is our only standard and this is what makes our wines so exclusive.
Our cooperative approach works for everyone, especially our smaller producers. It means we combine a broad range of skills, expertise and investment. Without this type of model, some of our smaller producers would not be able to compete in today’s marketplace and the world would be missing out on some truly unforgettable wines.”
