Carnaby in Colour!
Carnaby Street has announced an immersive art experience, in partnership with artist Kris Andrew Small, as part of the ‘Carnaby in Colour’ campaign. The installation is located at 57 Carnaby Street until 27th September 2023.
Kris Andrew Small has designed a space which features a bright floor to ceiling wrap-around artwork and offers limited edition prints and apparel for sale. There will also be a line-up of workshops, including screen printing with People of Print, Live LDN Painting and a panel talk.
The installation is meant to be centred around the message of ‘Be Human’ encouraging visitors to experience life in all its colours and potential. Throughout September the space will be host to a range of experiences and workshops.
Kris Andrew Small said “The world is getting bigger and bigger and more complex than ever. It’s easy to get consumed by it and forget at the base of everything we are Human. Of course, our world is so diverse and celebrates so many cultures and identities. London is one of the most diverse cities on the planet and Carnaby Street is right at the centre of that, making it the perfect location for this installation. The ‘Carnaby in Colour’ campaign aligns with my artwork as it celebrates everything to do with colour and inclusivity in the area, which also helped to inspire my work for this installation.”
What Workshops Are Available And When?
· Wednesday 6 September- 7:00pm – 8:30pm – Kris Andrew Small x Gay Times Panel Discussion x Queer Art as Queer Activism – Panel talk on important figures in the Queer art world and where it is heading today
· Thursday 7 September – Live LDN painting – Kris will be hand painting live in the space with his iconic LDN print curated especially for this pop-up
· 6-27 September – Kris & Friends pop-up- A carefully curated pop-up shop showcasing Kris’s work as well as some of his renowned London based artist friends; Annu Kilpeläinen, Hattie Stewart, YONK and Kelly Anna
· 14 September – 7:30pm- 9pm- Annu Kilpeläinen Workshop- Annu to host a workshop curated around Carnaby in Colour
· Saturday 23 September – 12:00pm- 3:00pm- Live screen printing – Live screen printing with People of Print. An interactive workshop with People of Print where the public can purchase a tote bag to be live screen printed on with a bespoke ‘Be Human’ design in a colour way of their choice.
The pop up is open from 29th August – 27th September 2023.

Visitors can also explore 100 independent and international retailers, including Adidas Originals, GANNI, End, Annie’s Ibiza and Dickies, alongside the more than 60 restaurants, cafés and bars, such as Darjeeling Express, Imad’s Syrian Kitchen, El Pollote, Bar Crispin and Nightjar.
Whilst in the area, discover a new summer installation made from recycled plastic. Working with recycling brand Are You Mad, the installation provides a vibrant feature on Carnaby Street and Newburgh Street, as part of the wider summer campaign ‘Carnaby in Colour’. The temporary art piece, which will be there until mid-September, comes in the form of three hand / heart shaped arches that are suspended above Carnaby Street and Newburgh Street.
The installation has been made using waste plastic sourced from local shops and restaurants and the wider district. The installation took 4 weeks of collecting waste plastic, 16 days of sheet pressing and a team of 13 people to create the finished materials. A total of 684 kg recycled plastic waste was used in the process ranging from bakery crates and buckets to food palettes and unwanted shop decorations.
