Make your dressing table space a beautiful haven for you to get ready at…
Whether you have a conventional dressing table or a desk, it is a space where you want to be able to relax and be able to make yourself look your best. Before heading on a night out, to work, on a date or to simply face the day, it is the place you sit and do your hair and makeup and get ready for whatever the next few hours throw at you. It is a place that is just yours, unique to you and a space that can be your little haven. Because of this we have put together our top five ways to make your dressing table your own beautiful space…
Keep it organised
Let’s face it, once we’ve rummaged through for that perfect lipstick, hair curlers, slides and perfumes, your dressing table can quickly look like a bomb has exploded. Powders abandoned, eye shadow brushes strewn as you were searching for your hair grips and now it feels messy and horrible. Instead of having one makeup box, invest in lots of little storage boxes. Keep your hair and makeup items totally separate and then organise things such as your makeup brushes into a pot and your makeup items depending on what they are used for. You don’t have to spend a fortune and it makes getting ready a whole lot easier!
Invest in a comfortable chair
Let’s face it, you’ll be spending a lot of time sitting on this chair over the years, so why invest in something that is going to be hard and painful to perch on? Invest in a chair that is both comfortable and fits in with your decor – after all, you want your dressing table area to fit seamlessly in your room. We love this Darcey chair in beige from Happy Beds – it’s padded and soft and also timelessly stylish. (It has also passed the sitting test and we can vouch it stays super comfortable!)
Think about the mirror
We’ve all, at one time or another, passed a mirror in a shop, cafe or hotel that shows us at our worst. Every wrinkle, spot or pore is suddenly magnified, under-eye bags look darker and we look chubbier than we’re sure we are. It can help to invest in a mirror that costs a little more and is better quality. You also need to think about the style, shape and size of the mirror. Find something that compliments the room and fits in with the style you want. Whether you want a round mirror, a large wall mirror or one with lights round the edge, shop around and find your favourite.
Don’t forget the lighting
Lighting is a seriously important factor with how you look. If the lighting in your room is too harsh or directly above you it can create unflattering shadows to the face, or if it shines more on one side of the face you can do your makeup unevenly. Invest in a lighted mirror or a lamp you can position and change around for the best results.
Make it a space you can feel relaxed in
At the end of the day, your dressing table is your space. It is somewhere for you to relax and have some me-time while also making yourself look great. Add little plants or candles and make it a space you enjoy sitting in.
